  • DIY Ceramic Coat

Ceramic Coat is a protective layer that can be applied on the paint to protect it from dust, water and micro scratches. A ceramic coat is known to last over 2-3 years once applied. To apply it yourself, follow the below steps -

Step 1 - If there are many hidden surfaces like fairing parts behind fairings, remove them to expose it completely. Mainly target the metal part of the bikes as they are not easily replaceable.

Step 2 : Wash the motorcycle thoroughly with car shampoo to get rid of any dust or oil on the paint and plastic surface.

Step 3 : If the vehicles has micro scratches / swirl marks, rub the paint with rubbing compound to get rid of the imperfections.

Step 4 : Once the imperfections are removed, shake the bottle of the ceramic coat well and start applying on once surface at a time. Do not try to cover too large a surface at once.

Step 5 : Let the liquid haze for next 2 - 5 mins, then wipe it clean using a clean micro-fiber towel.

Step 6 : Repeat the process. You can also apply 2 - 3 layers of the coat on a surface you want more protection on.

Do not expose the vehicle to water for 2 - 3 weeks after the process.

Follow the below video to see in-depth process of applying Ceramic coat to your bikes / cars -

Ceramic coats take about two weeks to cure completely. I kept my motorcycle unused for a good two and half weeks. DO NOT let water touch the surface before 2 weeks.

Other than that you can normally operate the vehicle after the coat has cured. You can maintain it normally like washing, waxing etc for further more protection.

These days everyone has a ceramic coating brand, so please verify the brand with some reputed car detailing forums before falling for it. Also, choose a reputed seller as well. You can also see coating worth less than 1000 bucks also in the market, needless to say tat they are fake!

This looks like a good article on latest marketing gimmicks in ceramic coating.
