Since past one day I had a feeling of low air being in rear tubeless tyre of my TVS Jupiter. Bought my bike in May 2016 and it clocked around 2700 kms and had a first puncture. I am unaware of how punctures are identified in tubeless tyres. While filling air noticed that the loss of air from rear wheel was very much more than the loss from front wheel. On closely inspecting the wheel noticed that it had a small nail which was inserted sideways into the tyre, not directly straight inside the tyre but slightly at an angle, which made me wonder if I remove the nail will the air fully come out and would I have a flat tyre or not.
Didn't wanted to take a chance hence on the way to office stopped at a puncture repair shop and got the nail removed, when he removed the nail no air came out. When asked him since he wanted to make money he told what if on the way air gets reduced, I didnt wanted to take any chance as i drive long distances and told him to fix the puncture. I found that though the nail is very small to fix the puncture stem he makes a very big hole in the tyre, why don't they have different kind of stems. Also what would have happened if I didn't had removed the nail and left it as it is, in another 2-3 days would the tyre have gone flat?
In amazon there are lots of puncture kits selling for Rs.150-200 which fix around 5 punctures, but the charge which Puncture shops take for fixing a single puncture is 90 rs (Chennai) which is daylight robbery I guess. And fixing a tubeless tyre puncture is very easy and is done in 5 minutes whereas fixing a tube tyre puncture takes lot of more time and removing the wheel etc etc, still don't know why the mechanics charge so high for fixing a tubeless tyre.
Also can I myself fix a puncture DIY, I have a foot pump at home and will buy the kit. .
