MODS... @sunilg, @Sunny - i feel there is some bug here with the notifications!

Whenever I quite someone's post in my replies to a thread, I am getting a notification - but don't you think it should be the other way around, i.e, if someone else quotes my post, I should be getting a notification?

This is quite cool, but I hope it has some sort of spam protection in place!

spam protection? obviously apart from xBhp registered members, nobody else would be able to tag you. And if you mean giving the user option to turn off notifications from tag/mentions, no it is not there as of now. But rest assured, we will make sure that people don't get to misuse it and get people unnecessarily.

I can foresee too many emails. Is it possible to specifically turn off email notifications for mentions and tags?

JUST A THOUGHT. Why not add a pop up box with all the usernames, so that if someone forgets their required user name, and remember it somewhat, they can just type that in the pop up search box and get the results and click on them and tag the user directly.

this is certainly on the cards. We might think of bringing it depending upon how the test run with these basic features goes.

The vBulletin is someone else's idea, is internet & motorcycling. We just adopted it & trying to make changes as per our requirements & ability.

If you have something particular in mind that you want us to implement do let us know.

p.s.: These communities/forums are social networking platforms. In fact, these are the earlier versions of social networking sites where people interacted and made like-minded friends before Orkut & FB took over. You can say xBhp is a social networking platform for bikers only.

As we said earlier, this is not one-off change. There have been many changes/upgrades in the forum in the recent past. And this 'Thank' button is certainly in our to-do list.

i feel there is some bug here with the notifications!

I feel that you are not doing it right. No body else has reported the same whenever they quoted someone else. In fact, i have quoted 3-4 people in this post itself, and if i get a notification back, will look into this.

Correction to above issue - it wasn't listed under Quotes, but under 'Mentions' This pic is what I referred to. I should be getting a notification if somebody quotes my post...but I am getting a notification myself whenever I quote someone's post in my replies...I don't want to get that notification...Is it a feature or a bug? If it is a feature, can I turn this option off??

on your profile, both incoming and outgoing mentions will be listed/notified, but you will not get any email for any tags/mentions you create.

1. We have restricted the number of tags/mentions a user can create in a post to 5.

2. You can see some useful stats about tagging/mentions going on xBhp here http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/usertag.php?do=statistics. a brief glance would let you know who's spamming and who's being spammed

In the screenshot that you have posted. There are two headings. Mentions and Quotes.

Those who quote you will go to quotes. Those who mention you will got to mention.

Only mentions show in your profile. Hope that clears it up.

(1) if somebody quotes you, it is listed under quotes tab. number of times you gets quoted is not reflected under your profile details on the left hand side of normal thread pages.

(2) if somebody tags you by writing @ before profile id like [MENTION=38603]The Monk[/MENTION], you gets tagged and number of times you have been tagged is reflected under your profile details on the left hand side of normal thread pages.

Hi Guys,

Most of you guys might have already noticed "mentioned" & "tagged" written under your user names when you make a post. Also some of you might have received emails from xBhp telling you that another user has mentioned you or quoted you in a thread.

We have incorporated this new feature on xBhp where you can now tag another xBhpian by just adding '@' symbal before his username while making a post on xBhp, just like you do on facebook/twitter, and an instant notification will be sent to the user mentioned by you.

for example just write @USER or @xYZ and an email will be sent instantaneously to that particular user.

Same thing will happen whenever somebody quotes your post.

You can see a list of all the 'mentions' and tags on your profile page under the tabs "mentions' & "tags."

We hope that this feature will help you always stay connected to whats going on on xBhp and also if your attention is required on any particular thread or topic.

We would also like to mention that this feature right now is in beta phase & we are studying its impact on the overall functioning of the site, so you might see some changes related to this feature shortly after some time.

You are getting confused because of the interchangeable terms with xBhp and FB.

Here the @ sign is mentioning in a post. Which on FB would be called tagging.

Being Tagged on xBhp is being tagged in a thread and not in a post.

So if you see below your name on any thread, There is -

Mentioned1 Post(s)Tagged0 Thread(s)
As above Mentioned is in posts, while Tagged is for a thread.

but how do u tag someone. i just tried tagging yourself and myself on this very thread. while it shows under the thread. it doesnt show under our names.
