    Partnership Rides, Sharing The Passion

We all love to ride; it’s our primary passion, that’s why we- the brotherhood of riders love xbhp. Though riding is the constant, we all make so many different rides depending on different situations- Solo rides, Group rides, Riding with a friend/s. Every ride has its own flavor and we savor every bit of it.

I’d like to reflect a bit on riders who have made rides with just their partners (wives or girlfriends). Let's hear how they felt, the difficulties, the adjustments to make, the joy, maybe sometimes the irritation of having to adjust with some one not so used to long stretches of sometimes dusty, sometimes wet and often quite back breaking, not to mention the saddle-sore bonus of a two wheeled ride! I know from many posts that a lot of guys have enjoyed riding with their wives and partners, lets reflect briefly on those rides!

Alright, I'll share my experience though pretty limited in this area.

I've travelled a decent amount on two wheels with my ex-girlfriend.

          1. 1 day 200 kms ride on a Honda Dio, back in 2005.
          2. A 3 day to Coorg and back covering about 700 kms in total, back in 2008.
          3. 450 kms on a rented Dio in 3 days covering North Goa completely.

That's a small brief about the relatively bigger rides, there were a couple of other shorter one day rides as well. Anyways, coming to the point :-

          Difficulties :-
          - First and foremost, has always been safety. Its always a lingering fear at the back of mind. More so because all our rides were mostly solo i.e. just us! Touchwood, nothing untoward happened.

          - Clean/Hygenic restrooms.

          - Places decent enough to pull in for a cup of tea.

          Adjustments/Irritation :-

          - Not much, had a pretty accommodating riding partner. She dint complain about backaches or wanting frequent breaks in between riding time. Din't complain if the rains were too hard and din't complain if the climate got too hot and dusty.

          The Good :-

          - Well I was really lucky to have riding partner who was as passionate as I am about travelling, hence the joy of sharing the hardship of a ride along with experiencing the highs of travelling is something cannot be compared with riding solo or riding in a group. Not saying its better than these, but its another dimension to riding.

I have done numerous short rides with my ex girlfriend, longest being a 300 kms/day.Though She had no complaints about her body giving up and such stuff, but i didn't want to make my pillion a dead goat by the end of the day.

            Pro's:
1.Your body will not complain that even your finger tip is paining.
2.Atleast you dont have to make some false excuses to ride out with friends the next time. She would have got used to your likes.

            Con's:
            1. Personally ,i like eating from local food joints. This is where you can have the taste of that land. This i had a serious problem. Not that she was uncomfortable with the food an all, but you don't want your partner to be the center of attraction among a crowd where 90% of them are 70-80year olds, staring at you guys smoking beedies by the road side.
2.Cleaner Restrooms, a point that has to be considered strongly.
3.Another point that has to be considered is the safety, not in terms of your gear and helmet stuff,Public safety is what i am trying to convey.

After all "It takes more love to share a saddle than to share a bed " .If you have a partner who is as passionate as you are with travelling, every ride will be a memorable one.

Have had many rides with my wife albeit short ones till the outskirts of Bombay... She is still getting into the biking mode... Although she used to ride a scooty many years ago her first bike ride was with me Over the past 2 years since we met she has slowly developed a crave for bike rides with me... Initially she used to favour the car... now when on a Sunday evening round I take the car keys she asks me to take the bike...

But long or short every ride with her has a very different flavour than the group or solo rides... And later these rides are also part of the pillow talk...

The only time she gets annoying is when its raining... As she hates her clothes wet and people staring... Also she feels cold at the slightest drop in temperature...
              "stay hungry, stay foolish."

To those who have attitude... My middle finger salutes you...!

Very valid points you have there Praful. Safety is truly a big factor and we need to 'rein in' and keep a check on speed often. It helps if we plan our route well ahead and choose better roads. Of course, night riding is a no, no.
Good rest rooms are a problem on most routes and we may have to make some unplanned stops.
Having a partner who loves rides as much as we do really helps and they adjust with a lot of the 'tough' parts of the ride.
Finally, as you said, its a different dimension and lots of fun if we can share the passion!

What's the point of bringing back a 3 year old thread from the cemetery ?
