  • It's Raining SBK's, No it's Raining Harley's

Every manufacturer wants to have a chunk of the Indian Motorcycle market right now after the decline of sales in almost every big market in the world.
Harley Davidson is the one which I personally feel is a Stand out. It was the highest earning automobile manufacturer in the world a few years ago with the sales units not even ten percent of the of the then Biggest manufacturer i.e GM.
The reason is clear they do everything with a clear vision. Every Superbike in India or Available in India was a CBU sometime ago, no one thought of CKD or a Manufaturing plant blaming feasibility and costing HD are the first one offering CKD to reduce price, They are even looking for a Plant setup.

Now Coming to the main topic Chhattisgarh is a small state in India. Where biking is not taken so seriously but since a couple of months, I have seen HD Fatboy, XR 883, 2 Intruders, 2 R1s, Ducati 848 Evo, CBR Fireblade.
Today while i was returning from my daily hangout to my disbelief i saw a Harley NightRod, then a 48, then a XR 1200, then two more OMG I got to the riders threw a few quetions and what Harley Davidson are organising an event in Raipur. Three people from here have applied for the Showroom one of them is already an owner of Suzuki two wheeler showroom which is authorised to sell SBK's from Indian lineup.
I think it Harley who have taken the market more seriously than anybody else.

What funny thing happened was, I started talking to them and guess what they were heading towards the highway to Bhilai and they wanted to go to the Railway Station they i told them the way if i had not followed them they would have had a long journey to the Railway Station.

No its not like the Demand for Harley's has jumped, its the effort they have made for selling them.
In most developed countries the manufacturers make race replicas of their bikes and they try to make their machines closer to the track machines to market the prowess of their products.
Similarly in India Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki have launched their big bikes not for the ultimate sales of those machine but a marketing technique for their other Bikes. I can say this because they have not made the bikes available throughout the country, Suzuki has made the attempt of making them available so i guess they are on the right track. But the effort from HD is great and they are here to prove their mettle. I am just looking out to see how Hyosung does?

The best thing are their recent adverts. I recently saw one in a motorcycle magazine...

It said 4 to 5 lines, like:

"we know the road is firm and fair even though life is not......
we know chrome and steel lasts forever unlike current year's politics....
We know growling V-Twins do not need permission to roar (except from their owners)
we know that the pursuit of freedom is act of individual will and not of the establishment.....
we know that whatever may come nobody can tax our happiness....

          Screw It. Let's Ride."

It was a clear indication to the CKD Tax, and how HD remained same priced as before. But this advert almost forced me to change my religion from sportsbike to HD's..

Very interesting. Superbikes/Cruisers making their way into the homes of owners in cities like Raipur. Cheers to Harley Davidson for their efforts in making more people realise their dreams of owning a classic motorcycle!
