    Bikes using Car technologies!

    Hi All,

    I googled and found that cars existed before bikes!
    first series production motorcycle)

    As we all might have noticed in the past, many technologies that are available in bikes today are actually borrowed/ copied from cars like
    • Fuel Injection
    • Litre Class Engines
    • Disc Brakes (introduced in 1902 first used successfully on Lanchester cars)
    • ABS (Anti - Lock Braking System)
    • Tubeless tyres etc

    1. I just wanted to know is there any technology used in cars which were originally introduced and used in Bikes?
    2. Which are the likely technologies to enter biking industry from cars, in the near future...

        Even during World War I and World War II early stages, Car engines were used for Aircrafts. A RR car engine will be simply bolted on to the Air frame with a Propeller driven by the Crank shaft, and the exhaust mufflers were done away with for extra acceleration and power....
        All types of engines , The " V " ,the inline, The Flat twin and four, with two valves, and four valves per cylinder configuration, have all come from the Car domain into the biking world.......still to see production line is the Wankel engine in bikes, already used by Mazda in their production cars....

            In Britain, Norton Motorcycles developed a Wankel rotary engine for motorcycles, based on the Sachs air cooled Wankel that powered the DKW/Hercules W-2000 motorcycle, which was included in their Commander and F1; Suzuki also made a production motorcycle with a Wankel engine, the RE-5, where they used ferrotic alloy apex seals and an NSU rotor in a successful attempt to prolong the engine's life.

                Yes there were feeble attempts which never became regular production line success like the Mazda achieved with their Wankel R series cars.Even to-day it is a much sought after car for its performance....
                Of interest is also the Diesel Wankel engine produced by RR...
