Suzi Perry warns bikers to protect their hearing.

TV presenter reveals riding without protection has resulted in long-term damage to her hearing.

    DO
    "

Specsavers hearing aid audiologist, Simon Wright, MSHAA director Specsavers Hearcare said: "Prolonged exposure to loud sounds can cause noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). NIHL is the UK's second most common type of hearing loss and the damage is irreversible. Motorcyclists are particularly susceptible, as wind and engine noise can exceed 110 decibels. In general anything over 85 decibels can harm your hearing.

"Prevention is the key and by wearing hearing protection motorcyclists are able to spend the day on their bikes without worrying about damaging their hearing. Specsavers offers an instant fit and custom range of hearing protection, specially designed for motorcyclists. I would strongly advise anyone who suspects they have a hearing loss or are concerned about their hearing to drop in for a free hearing test and consultation."

      topic name changed.

This is quite a nice topic that has been raised. Long hours spent on motorcycles exposes us to dangerously high levels of noise (wind noise, engine noise, and traffic noise) which can have some serious impact on our hearing acuity.

The worst part is that you might not be able to notice it instantly as the damage occurs in the form of inability to hear sounds of some specific frequencies first and may get worse later on.

The prime example of this phenomenon is Bharadwaj Dayala who toured solo around the world on his Karizma.

I myself used ear plugs during my ride from Kolkata to Bhubaneshwar during the Passion Hunt in 2009. And the result was fantastic. At the end of the journey, my mental fatigue level was at least 50% less than what it used to be normally, but it was dangerous too particularly in a country like India where the horns are an essential tool of your road tactics. So I chose being deaf rather than being dead.

            i use TaperFits...

            never leave home without them.

earplugs are designed to suppress high frequency noise (wind noise)...
so hearing horns shouldn't be a problem.

these really help in clearing out (bike) vibes...
as in... your ride (in terms of engine vibes) will feel smoother.

have used them for over 100,000 kms on my P18O.

            no crashes.

My father used these when he used to work on the shop floor(in a factory) many years ago. I don't know if you can get it in shops or not. Some medical shops might be able to provide them...

ask your friends who would have given the GRE - its given at the center free

I think this article is more related to those who tour on Harleys and bullets.

                    Karizma people should chill!!

Sir ji, That Bhardwaj guy toured on Karizma only.

But agreeably we should not panic. The guys with extra-louder pipes are more at risk than us karizma/pulsar guys.

well in countries like US they use bigger bikes with louder exhausts. But in india we normally use bikes with engines of not more than 250cc. So I dont think engine noise would be a problem. Though the wind noise is a concern, it can be solved by using a good helmet like LS2, etc. Reduces the noise to a great extent.

or you could say "noise cancelling year plugs" if you'd like to sound fancy.
