Not exactly. Not in evryone's case. I rode the R1 quite extensively and that too in full kolkata traffic but i felt at home on it. There is hardly any significant difference between the litre class bikes. Every rider has a different comfort level. so its difficult to make a general assumption
You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

Why dont you agree with me ? Suzuki does not have a 1000 CC bike in india. Honda has, Yamaha has and about Ducati ... do they even have a website in India ??????? I just know that they have their bikes in India, from unofficial sources.... Dont think they are interested in India much..
Kawasaki does not exist. On their own that is, only heard that name along with bajaj.

          • mcn is most definitely rigged. most magazines are. they just say it in a nice way so no one suspects it. every brand of litre bike has a different feel, usability factor. hondas are smooth. kawsakis are stonkin , scary and perfect in the hands of a professional, gixxers used to be the weapon of choice but seem to have dropped their game a bit and yamahas had a great combo of looks, smoothness and power. the looks have made it the posers favourite bike.

Ducati has had an official launch in India. I was present. Do you want me to show you the photographs that I too at the event? A whole thread was put up before the crash happened. Ducatis are not everyone, they are a lifestyle product.

I have been riding the R1 (of varying years and models) for 30K kms now. And have been riding the Blade and the Ninja and the Gixer on and off. Vivek takes my R1 and gives me his Ninja from time to time. As far as the litre class goes... both Vivek and I are of the opinion, in ergonomics, no other litre class even comes close to the One! But then others may differ.

Unless its a manufacturer event, you can forget abt test rides. If a friend lets you test it, then well and good.
This is unbelievable! You can't test ride a bike?

When I was in France, I could test ride ANY bike of my choice from a dealership for a duration of less than 30 minutes. I had to leave my IDL at the dealership, an attendant would accompany me with another bike. And I had to get back in less than 30 minutes, insurance cover and all!

I do not know how it is in the rest of Europe though.

I know Ducati is in India, it was flashed across all news media. Need no proof . But as you said, its not for everyone and at 50 lakh price tag for 1098 R, its a lifestyle product. So if we leave the "lifestyle" product out of choices, there are just two 1 litre engined bikes available officially.

                      • 2005 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R - the best litre class bike I have ever had the privilege of placing my generous backside on and taking out for a spin (literally). Would wheelie without warning in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and with the slightest of clutch-assistance in 4th. Insane INSANE bike and definitely one to own, covet and collect because this WILL go down as the bike that separates the men...from the boys.

I was so scared of it - I bought a Hayabusa

There is no such thing as "without customs"!

                            • ^Ok so how much does one pay? With regards to years of ownership. I think Mr. Ducati 695 here on XBHP paid 100% duties on Monster because the bike was less than two years old.

You pay the same! On the evaluation done by the customs officials.
