There is a certain uniform Depreciation rate, as mentioned by an official Mumbai Customs link.

The best you can get is 10+ years old bike, with duties accounted on a depreciated price, which is 30% of Purchase Invoice Value... But this remains same, so EVEN a 20 year old bike would invite 30% duties only, and no less than that...

It is available off the shelf, from the local Honda showroom. Ex-showroom price; 9.7L. About 10.6L OTR Delhi!

That is not how it works in real life!
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

        • @ all who want to buy second hand and get it to india:
you just cant buy any used bike in the USA and ship to india and claim cheaper taxes..our customs babus arent that dumb yet..
you have to show that you own the bike and that you are coming back to india after having resided abroad. SO there is the issue of your visa and residence transfer.
but keep thinking im sure one of us may find a legal loophole..

            • your cousin can't just bring it here and sell it to you, he has to own the bike in india for two years after the date of registration in india before he can sell it, like he is your cousin so you could ask him to bring it down here and let it be in his name, you can pay him and keep riding the bike for two years before you transfer it in your name.

              • Yeah thats the thing i required. But can he go back to UK leaving the bike in india? Wont he get any issues in leaving bike here? And how much tax should he pay if he bringing the bike in his name? Like if he is bringing a 800+cc bike, how much duty will be required to pay?

                • Not sure if this is the right thread, but here goes my query..

Since speed 97 is available in limited number of places in India, can we have a list of Fuel stations offering Speed 97 with approximate location of the fuel bunk, shall help all the SBK tourers

Found some info about 2010 ZX10R. It will be a big bang engine.
It must come to India when it is released at end of 2010.

Kawasaki has applied for patent of flat cylinder design.

I just know that they have their bikes in India, from unofficial sources.... Dont think they are interested in India much..
Kawasaki does not exist. On their own that is, only heard that name along with bajaj.

Ducati will officially sell all its bikes in India. Including the smallest bike 696 in India.

The 696 is priced at 10.69 lakhs ex-showroom in Mumbai.

I paid 143%, on the depreciated price of the bike. The rules for calculation of depreciated value of a used bike are published on the customs website, I dont remember. My bike was depreciated at @13% at 1.5 years old.... I could be wrong its been 1.5 yrs since the last time I looked at the customs paper work.

I was told by a very influential customs agent that you can import a brand new bike, only if you have a licence to Import. New bikes cannot come as TR.

PS:i know 1098 is crazy with its 50 lakhs price tag but its here
1098 is high 20's.......like 26 or 27. I believe they will also bring in 1198

                              The Desmodici is 50
The smallest monster (696) is 10.69

BTW: From what I read in some business mag... Ducati is building a factory near Pune, over the next 3-4 years. They will start making parts and also assembling CDK's there...... Let's see how the Japs react to that move.

The showroom in Mumbai was set to open Oct-Nov, Don't know if the other one in Delhi has opened?

Yeah try bribing to get a bike through customs now.... the officer will show you the door. The DRI has put a stick up everyone's you know where.

I had a friend who got parts for his "officially purchased in India bike", The parts were minor... but the poor guy had to show everything from the showroom invoice to RTO registration to get the parts through. Of course he had refused to pay them a single rupee in bribe, hence the work to rule I assume.
