and add to that the uneven distribution of money, one class is getting more than what is actually needed, one class is deprived of everything and the middle class somehow managing to squeeze in between is silent audience of great indian socio- economical drama.

You guys are jumping from somewhere to nowhere!!! If you talk about population, ever heard population density? It means, people per square Km.

India is way lesser compared to countries like HK, Singapore, South Korea & slightly lesser than even Japan. So does that mean all these countries run into utter chaos & people tolerate to everything?

C'mon, think over. Its not the population; its the lack of ENFORCEMENT. All the law in this country is excellent, but on papers & only remains on paper.

Pardon me for replying to an old post. But it is indeed IOC's results. They have given break-up by segment. What you see in bold as 'Total Revenue' is IOC's or in your words 'consolidated financials' revenue/PAT.

i wud like to pin point to the error in the first post

i have learnt applied chemistry in my engineering first year and using appropriate temperature machinery pressure and chemical reactions u can convert crude into what so ever amount of percentage of petrol u want...be it 90% or 40%...so that break up u gave is just an example...not straight fact that 50% is petrol...infact if u want u can get 70% diesel...depends on what the company is producing

Re: Fuel Pricing in India : Detailed Analysis

Lil bit off topic - I recently noticed whenever I purchase petrol from Shell petrol pump using my Citibank credit card, I get charged extra. Has anyone noticed this? Does this happen to other credit card users or at any other petrol pumps?
Any inputs regarding this is appreciated. Thanks in advance..

Its the 2% surcharge scam prevalent across the nation. Its the tax meant to be paid by the merchant, but fore some strange reason, nobody protests.

Its the gateway charges charged by the bank machine where you swipe your card. For example, petrol bunk has the machine from Axis bank & you have SBI card then Axis will charge SBI & SBI charges the customer.

This is because selling petrol has very small margins to it. The 1.7 to 2% charge of banks is not viable, hence banks directly charge these to the customer. At other places, if you notice, the merchant himself will charge the 1-2% to you for using card, whereas here the bank directly charges. Hence these bunks have special tie ups with banks, example, HP with ICICI bank, where if you swipe your ICICI card at HP then the charges are discounted.
                        Regardless, Life shall go on.

citi bank has a tie up with ioc
if u fill in ioc where there is a citibank machine you will not be charged

The Credit Card charges differ from Outlet to card issuing Parent Bank...For instance I have a CitiBank card which says nill charges with IOC , a HDFC card that allows me to fill in any vendor throughout India with no charges , for any fill equal to or above Rs.,400/-..
I also have a ICICI card which doesn't charge me anything irrespective of Value or Vendor....

Yes it's vendor specific I have a Citibank IOC card and the petrol pump vendor has a Citibank swipe machine I don't get charged at all.

Come on guys! As replied by Divya Sharan, no surcharge to be paid to the bank and or any establishments on electronic purchases. You can simply refuse to pay and ask clarification from the bank. There is no rule as such for surcharge payment.
