  • Royal Enfield Classic Maintenance??!!

Bought a 350 cc silver color with 160 kms done at the moment. Drove in the rain yesterday. A few questions pinging in my mind for bike maintenance.
It has a lot of steel, so rusting sounds really fast. What should be done to take care of rusting?
Secondly, any experienced bikers suggestions are valueable for other maintenance too...and share what all have you spent extra for maintenance.

    cheers

        @Gurnani & others:

Am new to this place, goinf through a few topics. Thought I can contribute some.
I have been and still riding an RE ThunderBird 07(Two-tone coloring - AVL). She is almost 5 years old now(done 55k) and going strong

        A few suggestions:
        1. Cl-350 is prone to rust is what I have heard and witnessed, simple solutions such as cleaning the moisture off as and when possible will help you in the long run. I used to clean using Waxpol and it does arrest(not remove) rust considerably. To remove rust, I use a solution, details I ll provide tomorrow.
        2. Check the chain tension fortnightly, learn to do all these touch up work by yourself.
        3. My mechanics advice - Spend atleast 10 mins in cleaning your bike everyday, this helps you in detecting oil leaks, loose nuts etc at early stages.
        4. Fork oil seal, keep an eye on it all the time.
        5. Dont compromise the ride quality at any cost, detection at early stages is key to keep your vehicle in best shape
        6. NO OPEN CORE Silencer please, I was a victim, the sound is just awesome, but the engine progressively becomes awful.
        7. Kick start the bike as much as possible and most importatnly, during cold start.
        8. Dont allow water logging in the engine area, keep a spare SP!
        9. Treat her as a part of you, she will love you back!!

        Happy riding!!

            Re: Royal Enfield Classic Maintenance??!!

Bought classic 350 on 18th of this month, so far so good. Clocked 982kms.

Few things I need to add.
            1. It's not a normal bike, keep it like a baby, she will Love you back.
            2. After washing it, lubricate chain, brake, wheels, etc.
            P. S. Don't make it very Rich
            3. 1st Morning kick start is enough, no need to make a kick start always 4. Don't do a drag in traffic signals.
            5. Don't drive on same speed for long time, varying with 10-15 percent of speed is enough.
            6. Keep a close eye on the areas near engine for early oil leak detection.

            Happy thumping!!!

              Re: Royal Enfield Classic Maintenance??!!

I use molykote supergliss for de-rusting, lubrication and cleaning of my Thunderbird. One can of spray costs around 200 bucks. It does an awesome job. The catch is that it will not be available everywhere. You will have to go shopping at places where they sell industrial spares.
