In 1994 a young Mechanical Engineering student Steve Chrisitini had many a fall on his MTB cycle. This got him wondering if the front wheel had power as well, then the fall could have been averted. In 1999 Steve started Christini Technologies Inc and commercially started building MTBs. Their first sale was in 2001. His company started designing, testing and building of Motorcycles, the first sale was in 2007.
The Christini AWD system makes it possible to start off on slush filled paths with ease. It allows the rider to get accelerate earlier and harder when cornering because it does not allow the rear wheel to slide. This also increases the life of the rear tyre upto three times because of lack of wheelspin.
These motorbikes have been ordered by the US Army. They were the best for climbing steep and muddy paths then any of the competition there.
AWD technology might seem quite an additional expense to a motorcycle (around 2000 USD). But this might be the future of all motorcycles. In 2009 this was used on road bikes and the results were positive. Can this remove the need for traction control?
