Re: How to keep my live route status in my log
Can you be more specific regarding where you want to update your stats? Do you want to broadcast your position to a single terminal or to multiple users across different locations? If you have an Android device, most of these things are possible. You can not only broadcast your position live as you keep moving, you can also record your tracks for data and route review (top speed, average speed, max elevation, min elevation, moving time, stopped time et al...)Originally posted by sumitro_d View PostThat's the question.Let's say I start from Kanyakumari to Tawang at Arunachal,I want to keep my route or my position at my log LIVE.Is it possible or I have to uptodate my position at every day night when I can able to write down the log.Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. Re: How to keep my live route status in my log
What I thought I'll write my log in xbhp only which will be linked with my FB a/c,at night I'll do the writing by that time log should have my route covered lay out in position,I'll then fill up the days experience.Originally posted by bbsrailfan View PostCan you be more specific regarding where you want to update your stats? Am I clear?or I sound unrealistic?

Re: How to keep my live route status in my log
That sounds a bit difficult, though the IT Guys among us may be able to comment on that topic. Personally, I feel an easier method is to use a track logging app like velox (available on Android, Symbian and Java) or SpeedView (iOS, Android) and export the track to an online GPX viewer. The GPX viewer will provide a very detailed and appealing presentation of the entire route, including all the parameters like distance travelled, top speed, average speed, ascending and descending speed, travel time, stopped time, total time, elevation etc etc.
You can provide a link to the GPX viewer and anyone can view an interactive map where your route will be highlighted. Best part is, you can hover your mouse over a point on the map to see your statistics at that exact point on the map (speed, elevation, direction etc).
For your understanding, I am posting a sample data recorded by my phone during an office commute. (note: Velox doesn't support interactive maps, there are other gpx viewers which support interactive maps).
(pls let me know if the data doesn;t load)
Velox
Edit: Link added for uTrack: uTrack - online GPX track report generator
You can use this link and the this sample GPX file to play around with the reports.Last edited by bbsrailfan; 05-09-2013, 01:28 PM.Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

also if u enable sharing / tracking on google latitude, others will be able to 'see' u when u r around.

there is a option in the app for external storage, but never used that till now so any one who using mytracks regularly can answer better.Originally posted by princesirohi View Postnice topic, in google tracks, can we use an earlier track for navigation purpose, if we want to visit same place again and again.Last edited by sumitro_d; 05-09-2013, 03:59 PM.

Re: How to keep my live route status in my log
for that i use the save for later option on google maps. [the login used by u for creating the map & accessing the map on the handset must be the same]Originally posted by princesirohi View Postnice topic, in google tracks, can we use an earlier track for navigation purpose, if we want to visit same place again and again.
1. i usually 'create' a map of my destination - from & to points on google maps [on a pc]
2. once this map is defined w/ all the navpoints per my satisfaction, i save it [scroll to extreme bottom on the left side panel of the directions data - save as a new map option]
3. once this is done, while on road, i fire-up the gmaps app on my handset which, once loaded, shows me my current location by default.
4. on the handset go to options / layers - my maps.
5. the map u saved on the pc is now available in that list - tap on that entry & the desired map loads up that shows ur current location on that map at that moment.
this feature is a great help, so long as u have data coverage.
6. i also use the 'collaborate' feature a lot. for ex. is my friends are driving down from pune to thane from the kalwa road, all i do is fire up my already saved google map > punch in the gmail-id of one of the visitors having a smartphone & a data plan & 'share' that map w/ him / them. no way in hell any cabbywalla is gonna take them for a joyride. this works especially well for my in-laws / folks who get confused on navpoints / dont remember the correct roads to be taken, etc.Last edited by whymail; 05-09-2013, 04:27 PM.◦ ● 4-wheels move the body... 2-wheels move the soul ● ◦

Re: How to keep my live route status in my log
If you have a smartphone that support Google Maps then you can share your Latitude location publicly.Originally posted by sumitro_d View PostBold is the requirement to generate my own route I'm havin multi option with me i.e sygic mapmyindia, google navigation etc.
Just open Latitude on your pc browser and click on application settings.
Google will provide you with code for an iFrame that you can embed on your blog.
Latitude does not eat huge amounts of data, but it does eat away the battery quite a bit!
EDIT: OT: Why are you wasting time doing Kanyakumari to Tawag ?
you can directly ride from Kol and spend more time in Arunachal!

Re: How to keep my live route status in my log
A dedicated GPS enabled unit, which is meant for such things. It will not give realtime info, but every evening it will load all your info onto the comp, where anybody can view it at a click of a button. Something like this. that we use for cycling. The info it gives is much more than a motorcyclist needs, but still. It also has battery backup of 18 hours and won't run up your phone bill.

Re: How to keep my live route status in my log
Sumitro, go for an unlimited data plan from Aircel/Docomo/BSNL...and go to settings to ensure Data Roaming is set to "off'. These operators offer internet access if you have a data plan already, even if you are in a different circle. Disabling data roaming will ensure that if you are out of coverage area and you hook on to a different network (e.g. Vodafone or Idea) your data will be turned off and you'll avoid being charged like crazy!Originally posted by sumitro_d View Postbattery can be taken care by on board charger but obviously your 2nd point is tough to tackle

IMO Latitude won't allow sharing your location publicly - you can only share your location with other Latitude users. Same goes with Waze and the hundreds of other location sharing apps out there. Look around the play store if some app allows you to broadcast your location publicly, though the choices may be very limited.Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo.
