  • Darius Glover: Paralyzed MotoCross Racer

We sit around moping at the smallest of problems which crop up in our life. We give up riding at the tiniest of excuses. We get stuck in our daily lives, forgetting to be grateful for the wonderful opportunities we get.

Sometimes, we need a wake up call from a rider like Darius Glover. A paralysed MX racer who is living his life to the core, despite his disabilities. In the video he says he was chosen for such an accident to happen to him, because he is strong enough to handle the pain and tread a path which will inspire and help others. Helmets off to this amazing young man.

An accident at the age of 15 didn't slow him down but got him up to speed. Such bravery at such a young age is nothing but a miracle.

Source of article where I found the video -
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Re: Darius Glover: Paralyzed MotoCross Racer

thats a very inspiring story there @The Monk
my salute & respects to this gent...
motorcycling as a sport [and car driving too] has so many outstanding / superhumans whom one can draw inspiration from...
so many gents, who did what they did, simply because thats what their heart wanted to do & thats what they were best at...
so many examples... 'steady' eddie lawson, wayne gardner, kevin schwantz, mick doohan, luca cadalora, steve hislop, the list just goes on...
even on the driving scene, juha kankunen, mika hakkien, collin mcrae, the godly ayorton-bhai senna, alain prost, nigel mansell, "sir" walther rorhl...
...so many humans who rose above their physical abilities / disabilities & surpassed in the field of their passion...
watching the above video made me go back some 25 odd years when i used to glue myself to tv, watching the grand prix happening every sunday & the WRC car events too...
u made me nostalgic there, my friend... and for that... a kadak salaam to u too!

[MENTION=61028]whymail[/MENTION]: can you start a thread about all these names you have mentioned and their story, i am aware about only 60 % of them.

i particularly like that "left side story", alan kempster or something like that, with the number "1/2"

Re: Darius Glover: Paralyzed MotoCross Racer

@princesirohi : ha ha ha! my friend, now THAT will be a tall task considering these legends & there astonishing careers... to make it a bit easy for reference, here are just 2 links showcasing the great men w/ their greater deeds...

World Rally Championship - Drivers & Teams - Drivers' Hall of Fame

i wud urge you to refer to specially meritorious careers of:

'steady' eddie lawson [arguably the best of all riders of the millennium - not only called so for his distinguished career, but for the hyper-cool temperament he showed in all his races - never stayed @ the pole position - he wud trail the top 2 or 3 guys till the 2nd last or the 3rd last lap & then wud unleash his magic - that's where comes the 'steady' part]

wayne rainey [the finest of the finest club - had an unfortunate fall - busted his spine - was handicapped waist below but continued to race on other circuits & cars even thereafter - was a very very close friend of schwantz - after his own fall, persuaded schwantz to give up his career for fear that he wud crash & cripple himself too]

wayne gardner [bikes to nascars to wrc - u name it - this guys done it all]

kevin 'bucking-bronco-master' schwantz [google for some of his videos / accidents on youtube & u will know why he is called what he is ]

mick 'destroyer' doohan [called so since he practically destroyed & wiped-out the legacy of yamaha's, riding his honda nsr - he was also the inventor of 'thumb-rear-brake' - a mechanism he devised & invented when he wanted to race, despite his 2 weeks old multi-fractured right leg & the concept of 'dual-clutch' on bikes was conceptualized by him for blitzkrig fast gear shifts!]

steve 'king of the isle' hislop [another god gifted world superbike rider & the 'king of the hill / isle' - thus called for his exceptional style & panache while racing the isle of man - was also called as the fastest rider on the planet - google for some of his rides & i assure u that u shall be left jaw-dropped!]

on the car drivers, walter rohrl has been the best of the best! he made lancia martini what it was back then - the worlds finest rallye car of all time ever. he incubated the concept of '4-wheel-steering' wherein, if ur car's speed is under 30mph & u turn the steering, the rear wheels turned [yes, turned a bit] in the direction opposite to your front wheels - resulting in a shorter turning radius. if the car speed was above 30mph & u turned the steering, all 4-wheels would turn in the same direction where u turned the steering to resulting in perpetually no body-roll during high-speed overtaking - this also resulted in minimizing oversteer & understeer of a car... a genius to say the least.

he was also the main guy to 1st-hand test, improve & perfect the legendary & the finest all-wheel-drive system on this planet - the quattro - by audi. he made audi what it is today perpetually! 'sir' walter rohrl today, remains to be the finest drivers on this planet alive! his speciality is driving @ hyperspace speeds in ice!!! gawddamned!!!

another legend is carlos 'devil' sainz - the man who made toyota what it is today. the 'Full time D4D' all wheel drive system u see today on the hilux, the land cruiser, the fortuner, etc. was fine-honed & perfected by carlos 'devil' sainz. some say that his toyota celica rallye car was connected over live-nerves to his brain - that was the flawlessness with which he drove it... loads of videos available on the net for this legendary driver.

i guess the least needs to be said about collin mcrae - the man who brought glamor, fame, money, insane level of precision & engineering to WRC circuit on his Subaru legacy & impreza. there was a time in wrc when nobody... i mean nobody, was able to out-manouver, overtake, out-wit & surpass collin mcrae on the circuit. his speciality was the astonishingly minimal crashes... he hardly ever crashed & the way he manouvered his car thru the circuit was nothing less than downright inhuman... some say that his tyres developed 'talons' that grippped the tarmac / gravel with such ferocious intensity that he seldom had a skid / crash. sadly though, this gifted driver died in a freak helicopter crash @ his farm-estate w/ his son while on a descent a few years ago! real sad! a great loss to WRC circuit!

i've intentionally not written about the F1 thing since to my mind, F1 racing is like a walk in the park as in comparison to WRC.

regret the long write up but ample stuff is available on the internet for the gents whom i've quoted in this & my previous post.

          hope this helps!

          cheers!
