  • Excess oil Indicators

How do we know if there is excess oil in the bike APART_FROM the dipstick method. Does the engine behave different if there is any excess oil?
Is this bad for the engine?

    Query2:
Why do we have to top up the oil once in a while?
    Is this indication good/bad ?

    Thanks,
    Beo

Don't know any other way apart from the dip-stick. Excess oil causes damage to the oil seals and you will see oil leaks from the engine.

If the oil level drops within 200-500kms of topping up/new-fill, it means there is a problem with the engine. It could either be due to oil leakage or the bike is burning oil (piston rings worn out and you can see blue smoke from the exhaust esp., in the morning).

1.Only way to make sure is to measure the amount of oil u put in and also measure the oil that u drain to keep in check if there's major difference.
        2. Excess oil as contrasting it may sound tends to over heat the engine.
reason- Since oil is in liquid form it turns into gaseous form as it heats up..the gas or oil vapours then cool down and regain heir normal state and the cycle goes on...Some times the gas vapours become very thin due to a hot engine and escapes through the crankcase tube...now when theres xs oil in the sump threres no place for the gas vapour to cool down and dis causes the cold oil to become hot unusually fast resulting into a overheated enfine. Also it damages the oil properties, hampers the oil cycle, oil line which in result hampers the ride quality, engine wear and tear causing ur oil seals to leak..and eventually resulting to a major seizure. Also it pays to pay attention to small things like ur crankcase tube and check it if its not clogged through muck and all. So regular oil change and check and use of a high grade engine oil makes ur engine live longer. Safe riding tc.
