re: Modifications on KTM Duke/ RC series
Unfortunately, the KTM 390 is the best bang for buck i can get in India right now, the street 750 is more than double of its cost, and personally im a little tired of the unreliability of the enfields.
the only attractive factor in the KTM for me is the superb performance, I loathe the way it looks (its personal, im a traditional motorcyclist who rides thumpers)
what i'm thinkingabout is taking all the plastic out i.e the tank and the little fairing under the seat and the seat aswell, and go to a fabricator to get a bigger tank made and a much more plush seat. (both for the long tours)
10 literes of useable fuel is too less, especially with the low gas mileage, a 20ltr would be ideal.
What im thinking a more triumph bonneville-esque tank and looks, would that be doable on this Y shaped frame?
any opinions?Last edited by kartikdhar; 04-02-2014, 03:15 PM.

re: Modifications on KTM Duke/ RC series
Many guys have already modded the seat with gel layers. So that's definitely feasible. I'm not sure about the tank since that will require a really good fab guy. The tank has quite a few electronic sensors so you need to be careful there.Originally posted by kartikdhar View Postwhat i'm thinkingabout is taking all the plastic out i.e the tank and the little fairing under the seat and the seat aswell, and get go to a fabricator to get a bigger tank made and a much more plush seat. You might also want to look at changing the headlight to complete the look. Many connectors involved there too.Ride more, browse less.

Good job there. Do keep us posted on how you find it.
One thing to be noted is that it will reduce the high speed performance/mileage since you are completely going against the wind and not cutting through it. But yes, rider will not have to worry about windblasts
Not good with a pillion buddy. If the pillion is your wife/gf then she can hold on to you so it is better otherwise it is a nightmare for both of you.Originally posted by kartikdhar View Postany good fabricators you know in Delhi? plus how is the bike on a long tour with a pillion?

And regarding bigger metal tanks, fabrication is one thing but affecting the handling of the bike is what you have to worry about. It will completely alter the dynamics of the bike and you may never handle it as easily as you do with original tank.
By sensors he meant, fuel guage sensor, low fuel level sensor etc, which have to be correctly placed inside the tank. Also the fuel level reading on the console may show differently with a different tank.
I would suggest going for a bigger plastic tank itself instead of metal. But either way, there is lot of work involved.Last edited by Adarsh_Bk; 04-03-2014, 10:07 AM.

re: Modifications on KTM Duke/ RC series
I see that someone's already answered the sensors part. He's correct about the possibility of gauge reading going wrong. They are not very accurate as it is.Originally posted by kartikdhar View Postany good fabricators you know in Delhi? plus how is the bike on a long tour with a pillion?

No idea of fabricators in Delhi, man.
Pillion? They'll never want to see you ever again, hahaha. This is a solo bike unless if it's a very short ride.Ride more, browse less.

Thanks Man
But I am really confused about this mileage thing, this is what most bike sites say:
Aerodynamics and Fuel Efficiency- Motorcycles are not especially aerodynamic or fuel efficient, especially the styles that have riders sitting straight up, such as cruisers. Despite many large-displacement bikes getting 40 mpg or more, an upright rider causes significant drag, which negatively affects fuel efficiency. Attaching a windshield to a motorcycle diverts air over and around the rider's body, reducing drag and increasing fuel efficiency.
And personally, my mileage has actually increased a teeny bit, and I have yet to go on a really long drive, but my short trips to the highway have proven the effectiveness of the windshield.
The acid test will be when I go for a longer ride. Ill post the results here for everyone.
