I came across this blog where this guy maintains his diary on a Diesel/Vegetable Oil 400cc motor he fitted in a 1999 Yamaha Motorcycle. Seemed very informative and inspiring, so thought of sharing it with all of you :-)

Interesting indeed - I wonder if anyone can try the same here in India, and how the mod would actually affect the FE, and power/torque levels.Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!Comment

Just sharing...
I watched one show in Discovery Turbo, Bangla Bangers where they made a car with a diesel engine & runs on used cooking oil. Now, the engine they choose were old Diesel variant & the used cooking oil was run through various level of filters. It was then used as a blending agent with Diesel.
I did some Googling and found out that max 20% blend of veg oil can be used. Also, vehicles with 2 tanks (one having the blended fuel & the other only Diesel where the initial start/ignition is done by Diesel only) lasts much longer than the one having single tank. Also, this blend will work on older Diesel engines & not recommended for newer Diesel engine. Wish I could lay my hand on an old Diesel car

This is actually my engineering project for the next semester. 'Production of biodiesel using waste vegetable oil'. Let's see how it turns out to be!

Running on used vegetable oil will not be viable in India. Just compare the price of mustard oil and diesel. Also used mustard oil is used in some kerosene stove here. I think starting an engine with just vegetable oil would be hard, maybe mixing it with diesel help.
