From what i understand, x ring and o ring, both use vacuum sealed grease in between the rings to increase longevity of the chain. x ring having a greater advantage over o, as it has more surface area due to its shape and thus aiding in keeping the grit out, which results in a comparatively longer lasting chain.

x ring chains are also much more expensive than o ring, so i do not know whether it is actually worth using.

Thanks for the info the monk. yes they are more expensive but come as default in duke so that's why I asked . I was going through lube/clean videos and found these two which I would like to follow . Can you please check and tell if any additional steps are required or these videos are enough .

Some people said for the lube video, angle of nozzle is wrong or it should be from inside . I didn't get it . Is it wrongly done ?

Ok. I didn't know that x -ring chains are standard fitment on Dukes.

Cleaning and lubrication is the same. If you are using chain cleaning sprays and chain lube sprays like shown in those videos, then i guess this would be the best method.

Me using el cheapo methods So a little bit of diesel, a toothbrush and a soft cloth are all that i need for cleaning the chain fully. Lubrication is done with an oil dispenser, filled with gear oil.

But when on the road, any old method is good enough, which means dipping a toothbrush in a bottle of oil and applying generously on the chain.

Of course the more time and energy you spend on maintaining your bike, the happier it will make you.

Sorry I was totally wrong there , I just checked the manual and it's O-ring only . Indian Duke has O-ring and as I just checked the EU version (website which I was checking the whole time . ) , It has X ring as default . Yes I am using the sprays as in the videos . I agree more time more happiness and el cheapo/traditional methods are evergreen and satisfactory.

O-ring and X-ring are literally the same chains, the only difference being that the sealing in O-ring is done with a circular member, while in X-ring it is done with a X shaped member.

X-ring and O-ring

In these, a sealing ring in positioned between the inner and outer chain plates. Before riveting the chain parts, the internal parts of the chain are filled with chain grease by vacuum. The sealing rings then have two purposes: to keep the internal lubrication in and to keep the dirt out, thus vastly improving the durability of the chain.
In O-rings, the ring is literally O shaped. As the two plates push on either side of the O-ring, it distorts to have two flat sides to its shape. This is great for sealing and great for most uses but it creates considerable friction which saps the bike's power.
So in X-shaped ring, instead of having an O-shape it now has an X-shape. This means that when pressed between the chain plates, it no longer has a flattened O-ring shape but instead has two smaller faces touching either plate in an X shape. This gives you the same great sealing and durability but now with very low friction.

So, these are literally the same chains with X being slightly better.

As for me, if you are using chain cleaning sprays and chain lube sprays like shown in those videos, then i guess this would be the best method. Brick Masonry
