What Documents to be carried in your bike?.
I have my own bike and insurance but I am planning to go on a long trip. If I want to my brother's bike - what kind of documentation is required? Do I have to buy a a new insurance for the bike (that bike is insured by my brother)?

Prince is correct ...Originally posted by princesirohi View Postyou don't need to buy another insurance.
you need-- 1) your Driving Liscense 2) your brothers bike's - PUC, RC and Insurance papers
All three of those , plus 4) Road Tax token 5) An attested express written permission from your brother ( or the owner ) to ride and use his bike containing his phone number & address .Last edited by Pinaki; 07-10-2011, 03:46 PM.

in my case my bike belongs to my dad. a simple attested paper signed by dad will suffice or have to get it done on a stamp paper and signed by the local police? and what is road tax token and from where it can be arranged. There are two types of people in this world, people who ride Motorcycles and people who wish they could ride Motorcycles.

Tax token comes as a seperate piece of paper with your RC (bluebook or SmartCard) when you register the vehicle with any RTO . Unlike the RC , it has a fixed validity period ( 15 years in West Bengal ) .Originally posted by xtremebiker View Postin my case my bike belongs to my dad. a simple attested paper signed by dad will suffice or have to get it done on a stamp paper and signed by the local police? and what is road tax token and from where it can be arranged.
Permission letter is to be just on plain paper containing the owners phone number & address etc and attested by a gazetted officer , notary , magistrate ( 2nd class ) etc etc .

It is mandatory to carry originals as per the MV act and various other RTO acts . That is what the law says . Sometimes you may be able to convince some or another cop with a photocopy or attested photocopy , but safest to go by the law to the letter .

What Documents to be carried in your bike?.
Hello Xbhpians,
I have seen many people getting themselves into trouble via Traffic Police Checks for not carrying appropriate documents in their vehicles.
I hope this helps you all.
I carry the following documents in my vehicle in Bangalore:
1. RC book or smart card(Xerox).
2. Driving License(Xerox).
3. Vehicle insurance (Xerox).
4. Emission Test Certificate (Xerox).
I have been carrying Xerox copies of documents but I didn't face any problems till date.
But I make sure I have all the original documents with Adhaar card for tension free journey.
There is a guy called Chandru, who sells these handy pouches for automobiles for Rs. 20/- each.
These pouches can be kept underseat storage in scoots & also in utility box under any bikes seat. (Especially for people who own R15 with so much little space for documents
).
Chandru does Emission Test for 2 wheelers.
He charges about Rs.35/- for this test, he also provide Original Emission Test Certificate within 5 minutes, new insurance policies, spot insurance renewals can also be done here at 5-10 minutes.
Address :Mr.Chandru
IOC Petrol Pump
Ideal Homes Layout, Kenchenhalli, Nayandahalli
Bangalore.
I have attached landmark screenshot
Via Google Maps.
Wear a helmet & please put on your seat belts.
Thank you

Re: What Documents to be carried in your bike?.
The driving licence is the essential one as it not only shoes that you are licenced to drive but proves your ID. A police car pulling you up can check tne insurance and mot situation anyway. Worst that will happen if you do not carry the others is that you will get a 7 day wonder as they call it here, a chit informing you that you have to show those other documents at a police station within 7 days. (this is not a notice of any offence, just that you must show the actual documents - but if you miss the 7 day deadline you can be charged for 'failing to produce documents').
