• External Stator/Alternator for motorcycle...

I am just another electrical power hungry biker who has been hell bent on churning out powers like 240 watts to run Powerful Headlamps from my Bike.
I have experimented with many tweaks generally available but still hungry for a perfect and even more powerful solution....

Off late I have been thinking about an external stator/alternator (not sure of the right terminology) which is able to output higher wattages and can be powered from the bike's regular A/C or D/C output (so essentially no mods on the bike's stock).

I invite your thoughts:

1) Is it theoretically possible to create such an assembly that inputs a 35W or 60W and outputs like 120W or higher.
2) If 1 is possible, then thought of assembling together a 12v 60W motor with powerful stator/alternator... need expert insight on the specifications.

Thanks,
NAUGHTY

There is one guy on here who has done this on his tvs fiero and has amazing light on his bike.

Sent from my ST27i using xBhp Connect mobile app

Xbhp member NANOtechnology had fitted a car's Alternator on his Fiero and used 3 High power HIDs. If you have a ZMA/ZMR or CBR 250 the built in alternator is capable of giving 15 amps current and 20 Amps respectively at 3,500 RPM...The higher CC bikes like 650cc and above have more powerful alternators..

I guesss i don't have the access rights to view Nanotechnology 's threads - however, psr you mentioned about requiring engine power while I want a solution that doesn't need any mods in bike's stock situation as well as doesn't rob the bike of the engine power (My bad - I guess I had to be more explicit).

Essentially, I thought about using the bike's A/C or D/C output to power a 12v 60 W motor which runs the Stator/Alternator (probably from a car like Chevy Spark etc..) to generate electrical power..... Ultimately, car alternators generally have a pulley at the end of their shaft and the pulley is moved thru a belt. If the pulley can be removed and the alternator's shaft is directly welded to the motor's shaft (well, in perfect alignment) then the job's done.

Looking forward.

sir i do know about the CBR making 350watts @ 5000 rpm however was unsure about the Ah rating...
as you mentioned 20 Amps. Does that mean it will happily run a 55/60 W HID ??
I am unable to find the source. would be very helpful if you can assist me with the source of the information.

Re: External Stator/Alternator for motorcycle...

Back after a loooooooong time... meanwhile I had been experimenting on an even crazier idea - to altogether load a seperate small 50cc engine (like Kinetik luna's ) which can power my alternator. However I realized that things need to be simpler or else I am not getting closer to a good solution.

I stumbled upon this amazing 4000LM LED bulb thats available on AliExpress (almost ordered it). This should really satisfy all my lighting hunger.

However my Pulsar 180 dtsi is a March 2005 model which first needs to be converted to full DC.

All I know ATM is that all new pulsars are designed as full DC - so I will be speaking to the local service centre guy about the latest pulsar Stator coils and RRs which can be directly fitted on my bike to instantly convert my Bike to DC.

Meanwhile, if someone already knows how to do this, please share your thoughts - I will highly appreciate.

I hope this is going to be exciting !

Naughty
