  • Buying new Bike from different state

    Hi,
I am currently living in Hyderabad and wanted to buy a new bullet for me here. But the waiting period is too high here (4-5months) whereas I am getting the bike on the spot in my hometown Chandigarh. Since I am visiting chandigarh in the coming week, I thought about buying it there myself and bringing it here. I have few doubts about this
    1) Is there any problem in bringing a NEW bike from one state to another?
    2) Do I need to get Chandigarh No. for the bike or I can directly register it in AP?
    3) What all taxes I have to pay for this? (both in chandigarh and hyderabad)

If there anything else I need to know then please let me know that too. This is my first bike and I want everything to go smoothly even if it costs me a little more.

    Thanks in advance!!

    GBD approved!

Though not sure, but you can pay temp tax in CHD and register in HYD. (I'm not sure on this and it may need pulling a few strings if possible).
If not possible, you may have to pay road tax in both states.

But, I'll let other members pour info on this and please don't blindly go by my word as I'm not completely sure.

Have to pay taxes in both the sates. As long as I remember without taxes vehicles are not allowed to transfer. Else people will end up buying vehicles form those places where they are comparatively less priced. Like people from Mumbai could have go and buy vehicles from Daman. People used to do it earlier but now they can't since it is not possible any more.

Check Andhra Pradesh's RTO website thoroughly and visit an RTO in Chandigarh to confirm. Do keep us posted!

Confirm it with chandigarh RTO and Hyderabad RTO and also with your dealer.
You may also refer to their website. You'll get a more clear picture about this.
              Cheers,

Re: Buying new Bike from different state

When I thought of doing like this (buy in Assam, register in Karnataka), the showroom people said its possible. They would issue me a temporary registration number in Assam, valid for a month (like AS 01 TC xxxx / AS 01 TEMP xxxx) and do the permanent registration in Karnataka. I turned down the option as the Ex-showroom price in Guwahati was more than that of Bangalore, but taxes were pretty less, however, if I have to pay the full taxes of Karnataka, I would save few grands in transportation + difference of the total cost.

I have seen many guys buying the bike from some other district and registering it in different district, using the same temporary number format.
