  • queries regarding yamaha r15 mods

Hi guys i own a yamaha r15 v1 2011 model with around 34k kms clocked, it is my daily commuter bike and weekend trips and my only bike, i am now planning to go for a yoshimura full exhaust system for this bike and also get a stock replacement pipercross air filter all this mod will cost me around 23 to 25k.

My concerns were are this mod worth it do they add any extra bhp/torque and also, will it mess around with the bike's reliability if i plan to tour in the future and is it worth it ?

I don't plan to sell my r15 its going to stay in the family for a long time.

    Thanks,
    Shailesh.

    Query Approved

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Bro, there are so many threads on the same lines although not a dedicated thread only for R15 mods. But you can pretty much get what you seek, from those threads. Full exhaust system coupled with a free flow aftermarket performance filter will fetch a slight bump ~1/2 bhp. ECU remapping isn't mandatory but advised for a flawless performance.

Do check the forums for relevant answers.
        All the best!

Hey, As you are already aware MODs are expensive and not reliable as stock.. I mean the reliability is unpredictable and every member has fluctuating reliability experience, so nobody can vouch for reliable MODs.
Since u are planning to keep it long I suggest stay stock.. Mods need constant attention and care and its almost a never ending journey. You are most likely not going to stop with the first set of MODs. Your need for more power is not going to end with ~2 bhp increase.
If we don't have high power 2 wheeler in market, then we have no choice other than MODs. We have reasonably priced rides in market which will prove to be less expensive than MODs.

Suggest you check out some new launches like RC and then decide

I have quite a lot of MODS done by Race concepts, So far I did not have a Major breakdown or reliability issues. I had to visit race concepts quite few times to fine tune the ECU when I moved from Chennai to Bangalore and for other minimal maintenance works. I run in fully synthetic motul oil and will change it any time after 2K kms. I mix petrol with 97 Octane and normal petrol whenever I fill her up.
My MODS have run close to 10 K in over the period of 2 years.I am currently not riding for past 3 months as I am out of station. I will get to use it only after 6 months. The list of MODs done in my ride is as below.

          180cc bigbore.
          Bigger head and valves.
          Highlift cam.
          Race dynamics ECU.
          Bigger throttle body.
          Valve springs and clutch springs.
Very high free flow simota airfilter.
Close ratio gear box(3,4,5 and 6) - (1 year old).
Free flow stainless steel exhaust (1 year old).
front and rear petal discs with steel braided lines.
          Lightweight Chain and rear sproket.
          Front sproket

thanks chaos and shiva for the advice, i think its better to keep the bike stock and save up for a new motorcycle rather.
