hunt down the scrap yards.. else showroom for accident vehicle declared as total damage.
however it wont be road legal as engine number wont match...

Shivajinagar, if you're lucky! What is his budget?

Not worried about RTO for the moment, budget is not an issue if it doesn't cost a bomb. I need more credible sources and junk yards are not preferable since there is no guarantee on the engine condition.

if you can find a whole unit for cheap it is good. just rebuild the engine.. like check rings , head packing and clutch plates..
atleast do some window shopping in junkyards.. not like total scrap yards but each city will have those "chor bazaar " kinda areas where salvaged parts will be sold...

Junk yard, pretty good bargaining, u get it for 10-12K. Better catch hold of an insurance guy who inspects claims and disposal of claimed vehicles.

Thanks for replies, but I think there is lot of things like carb, mounts, wiring, etc which also need change for this swap and it might not really turn out to be good marriage overall since the capacity difference in quite big.

Why don't you just go to a police auction and buy an accident case karizma? It'll be cheaper, least likely to be tampered with, most likely to have all necessary parts you need, and it'll be dirt cheap and legit.

Mounts are the same for hero's 150cc and karizma's engine. Carb would be different but most of the wiring would be same. It'll need dedication but if you pull it off it'll turn out great.
Rest is upto you I guess.

How often do they do that and how to get notified of one? This is one thing that has always kept me inquisitive

Police auction happens once or twice a year max. If the TS is willing to wait then yeah, if not , then not worth the wait.

Electricals are different, ZMA is full DC, Impulse is AC.

Have ridden atleast 4-5 Impulses with ZMA engine fitted and other mods like FFE, fitted n all. Frankly speaking, not even in one did i feel that the money spent and result tallying satisfactorily. Im not denying/Discouraging the effort, but a personally suggestion for somebody loosing some weight on the pocket.

Police or in fact any government auction details are available on this link:
MSTC Limited is a Mini Ratna Category-I PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India.

Once on the site you can surf through all auctions and get relevant dates for each state and department within your reach. (originally found on teamBhp website in the government auctions thread).

Depends on how you do it. Mostly anyone attempting this will start off strong but will run out of steam midway once financial concerns start to creep up on them. And then they start to compromise on quality of work and start cutting corners on much needed mods. But someone who has both time (about a year or so) and money could pull it off.
Also, such things are not for the practical minded because its cheaper to buy a karizma zmr and mod it. But such things if done will give you a unique satisfaction of owning a one of a kind bike. With such things people should think with their hearts not minds because when you think about it there really is no practicality to it from any angle.
Hey, but the heart wants what it wants right?
