  • MCN: 09 R1 leaves the Blade behind

The first of the shoot-outs: this one is a miniature version of the full-blooded I4 battle which the bike mags will have in a couple of months time. But its good that someone gives in to the temptation and reviews the defending champ(Blade, unchanged from last year, except for a brilliant paint job) and the all-new 09 R1. The R1 boasts of an M1-import crossplane crankshaft with a 90 degree interval between the firings. Heres the video:

Video: 2009 Yamaha R1 vs Honda Fireblade - Motorcycle News

I have always thought MCN to be the kind of people who make really short videos with shaky commentary on the bike they're reviewing. This video doesnt do anything much different, but its the best job I've seen from their camp.

This should make all the Yam boys here happy

hurray for the mighty one.... its good to know that it has beaten the perfect blade..., only if the production cycles of both the bikes would have started in the same year then we would have a head to head fight of new tech vs. new tech.

@hydbiker: i don't feel sunny would be saying that.

Right...as of now, the R1 rules...lets see how it fares against the next version of the Blade...

Exactly...but this was what yamaha fans were saying when R1'08 was compared with the Blade'08.......

There is a very good possibility for 09Blade to change position the next year....

Let the yamaha fans just enjoy the happiness as long as R1 remains at the top

                      Good comparo...

well, these four japs are like the bosses....always raising the bar for each other and this is good....ya its not necessary that all of them would upgrade their bikes at the same time...infact, the Fireblade have always been the easiest motorcycle to ride in its category but still Honda took quite some time to come out with the latest incarnation which actually blasted everything else...

...now this year seems to be the year of the Yamaha with their R1, its only good and we'll again see in 2010 who raises the bar again!

Still, Fireblade remains the easier bike to ride, however, this time R1 comes out with bottom end torque which was always missing in it till last year compared to the Honda.

However, I somehow feel that it was Yamaha's incapability to produce the Fireblade like torque with the normal inline 4 engine layout...their YCCT & YCCI didn't help much...in the end, they had to completely go out of their way and had to use the M1 like firing order in order to achieve more torque...and they seem to have got it and infact better!!!

In any way, its good that one of my favorite motorcycles seems to have finally got that v-twin like grunt and torque...and I am only happy

                      Bottomline....buy a Blade or the R1...it doesn't really matter

Well, people who choose the Yamahas over other bikes....dont care which bike tops these magazine tests. Its just the feeling one gets after you swing a leg over the Yams that is unmatched....

It all boils down to personal preference and what sets your heart racing.
It has always been Yamahas for me

Man, are we biased towards the one or what!! Its hightime Honda did some PR here.

Nonetheless, theres the Gixxer to come. It could leave both of them behind for all we know.
