  • Pressure. Let's put it.

It is one of those Wednesdays when sleeping in office leads to an evening and an epiphany. But this is not about the evening. So, let's talk about an epiphany. I recently read about two bikes from Yamaha which to me sounded like the perfect things for someone wishing to upgrade for bigger bikes in this country. They are MT-07 and MT-09. I know rather dynastic. But, unlike Rahul baba, they are quite possibly the most exciting bikes to come out of the triple tuning fork's folio. But, there are many exciting bikes from a certain Italian manufacturer, I hear you grumble. Very true, ugly grinches, but the thing that makes these two awesome is they are cheap. Not dirt cheap, but cheaper. Take MT09 for example, triple cylinder naked with 114 odd bhp, all for around eight lakh. And MT-07 is a twin cylinder naked with around 65 bhp, all for 5 lakhs. No shit sherlock, what's the epiphany bit, I hear some of you say.

Well, why can't we at Xbhp get something like a petition and sign and send it to Yamaha. I mean why not. There are enough of us on this platform. All of us are suckers for Value for Money bikes and all of us want to wake up to something that doesn't behave like an asthmatic when we twist the throttle. Yamaha anyways needs something good happening for them. Why not we present ourselves to them. Or for that any matter. Let's put a Petition section, where if we receive enough number of signatures, someone from the XBHP team can go and present it to the manufacturers. Let's use these numbers to some good use. It might work for all you know.

    What say?

      Re: Pressure. Let's put it.

No Offense though on the petition part...do you even think it will work.
auto giants going for mass productions are more interested in sales and volume than customer satisfaction, else why would our country have more sub 100 cc bikes than mid-weight segments. the ideology of VFM is bred in our blood and we are liable to it (IMPO) .

It doesn't mean a person with 10k monthly salary shouldn't dream of owing a liter class bike, its the add-on pricing making everyone scratch their head, rather than their driving passion , atleast to me.

        Re: Pressure. Let's put it.

For many consecutive years now, Yamaha is making good profits through their current bikes/scooters. From their point of view, there is no hurry to jump start the guns.
But as a customer, I also feel they should release more higher cc bikes.

        Ride safe and have fun.

          Re: Pressure. Let's put it.

I think it's the law of demand and supply. It makes commercial sense to manufacturers only if a certain scale of economy is achieved. That's why for a high capacity high price auto models whether 2 or 4 wheelers they take CBU route.
Now the govt policy about import duties on cbu makes it almost unreasonable to buy those models at such a high price.
Further , once the manufacturer sells a product he needs to have trained service force , spares, and service centres, special equipments. Etc. All these is a commercial and logistical nightmare as it's Damn expensive to create and maintain.
If they charge high we shout. If they import parts only on order we don't like to wait.

As a biker I like to have all the best models available with all the manufacturers of the world so that I can buy enjoy and change. I also want to pay reasonable price same as abroad.

What about rupee $ exchange rate.....what about duties ...Etc etc.

Sorry guys to be sounding negative but how many bikers will put down lakhs required and actually buy the bike.

Let's see Hayabusa is available here at reasonable price. How many has been bought. And Let's be fair. ..is there anything wrong with Busa?

So in the end this situation will continue. Some manufacturers are conservative. Some take risks but at the end its business and they will take a commercial call.

I think we also do the same thing personally...like even if I can afford (I can't ) I would think 100 times before buying Sony/Samsung /LG 4k tv at 4-5 lakhs. I will make do and enjoy my LED tv of 40-60 k.

            Re: Pressure. Let's put it.

The only way we can have an affordable twin or triple cylinder bike in India is if it is manufactured in India. Currently that seems a distant dream. I want to upgrade to a 80 bhp bike in the next two years and want to spend less then 3.5 lc but I know that is not going to happen. Sigh
