  • Purchasing a bike for a foreign national

One friend of mine from Germany wants to ride around India for a period of a month or so. The bike will have to be purchased and registered in Mumbai. What is the usual process here? Can the bike be purchased and registered under his name, be it brand new or used?

Any tips and related help will be mighty appreciated.

    Cheers!

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

For such a short period, would'nt it be more efficient to rent a good bike instead of buying a new one.
you wont have to worry about registration, insurance and other formal hassles.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thank you Ankey. The max budget is Rs.35-40000. Recommend me some rental sites.

Why don\'t you buy a used bike?

for 40,000 INR you won\'t have much option for band new for foreigners given there natural build up, 125-150 cc bike won\'t work for them & 200cc> is not in budget ,so option is to buy a second and krizma ,p220, or bullet

I dont know about any rental sites sir, you could check out any second hand market in your city, they will charge the rent and some security money and provide the vehicle you choose with papers, and an affidavit stating that the vehicle is on rent for a certain period of time. Use the bike and then return it and get your security money back. This setup happens in almost every tourist place, you will have to check out if your city provides this rental service.

I've recently been to Goa, and one of my close friend suggested me to rent a bike to travel within Goa, but as usual getting quotes from multiple vendors and comparing them to find the best one was a little tiresome for me and then i found this website, which lets you compare and find the best rental company in the city you choose. I chose my bike, booked it in advance and i had my ride without any troubles of visiting multiple places. These sort of arrangements really makes you travel a lot more convenient
