A Digital machine is linked to your exhausts' pipe, as below the bike, there's a hole for it.
This pipe takes in the exhausted fumes while the engine is running at idle rpm, and measures the Carbon Dioxide (or Carbon Monoxide) to determine whether your bike is running Rich or Lean.
A bike running rich pumps in more fuel than the optimum ratio (air is lesser). Hence, it will pump out more CO. Such a bike will give less mileage & performance.
A Lean bike runs less fuel than the optimum ratio (air is more). This kind of bike will overheat, stall a lot, etc. even if it gives slightly more mileage or performance.
A screw on the carb will be used to adjust the CO upto a certain extent, so that it remains optimum. The optimum ratio is around Air:Fuel::14:1. It can be different too depending on the usage and environment.
If you have the DTSi, you can get the CO checked at your Bajaj Service Station. It will take 10 minutes and some cash (not more than 50-100 rupees).
