  • Budget 2015 Good? or Bad?

    Hi,
Am new here and just wanted some clarity on the budget this year, as am planing on buying a ninja 650. Does it make sense buying the bike now or later? I was planing on buying it in the month of Aug/Sep but just wanted to check are the prices going to shoot up significantly? Didn't get much of an answer at the dealership.

    TIA.

    Regards
    Vignesh

Re: Budget 2015 Good? or Bad?

General Biking Discussion Topic Approved & moved.

UPA had restrained excise duty hike till December, but it was not extended in January by the Modi government.
The resultant excise duty hike has translated into a 4-6 per cent price increase across passenger vehicle categories, affecting demand. The inverted duty structure is yet another pain point for the industry. The raw material and engineering inputs are being taxed at 12 per cent. Similarly, even tyre-grade rubber raw materials did not receive a relief from this budget.

Clearly, the auto industry has seen better days. With no relevant customs duty reduction either, one thing is clear: Importing & selling Ninja 650 is probably going to be more expensive this year, for Kawasaki atleast.

Whether they pass the increased cost to the customer, is purely Kawasaki's decision.
In the past, Harley Davidson had absorbed increased duty on their own profits, by not announcing price hikes immediately.

However, its rare that MRP is reduced to compensate Excise duty, which is related to all goods sold in a country, not necessarily imported ones. So, don't expect much from Kawasaki, in my opinion.

I'm not sure the India-Thailand progressive (10 years I guess?) FTA will have a positive impact on the price or not.

So, I suggest that you purchase the Ninja 650 as soon as possible... But anyways, it must have got costly by now.

What baffled me the most when I asked the dealership here was, Even though you pay the full amount X, and if there is a price increase by the time your vehicle lands onshore, you are entitled to pay the additional amount.

Incase, the vehicle is handed over to you before the price rise, you are spared.
      R15S - Current
      Honda Dio - Current
      TNT 600i - Sold
      Classic 500 - Sold
      Pulsar 220 dtsi - Sold
      Yamaha YBX125 - Sold

Yes, it's a common procedure. Depends on date of invoice.
