  • Is it legal to buy a new bike from another city at lower price??

Hi guys!! I am from Thane city. Looking for a new bike. Mostly Gixxer.
Gixxer's on-road price in Thane is different & higher than other nearby cities. Gixxer in Thane is at 88-89K & in some another city of Maharashtra it is at 83-84k. Why is this nearly 5k's deference for?
Is it fine to buy the bike at reduced price from another city? or is there any RTO or Tax issue with it??
If it is not a big issue, then suggest me the city or area near by Mumbai/Thane to buy the bike at lower price.

    Topic Approved

You can buy a motorcycle in any city provided you have address proofs for that city! Also it is best to buy from the dealer where you plan to get your bike serviced, even if you spend a bit more. Helps build a relationship with those guys, useful when you take your bike for servicing.

The difference in pricing is due to varying tax rates.

You can ride a bike within the same state without any hassles. It is bikes with an outside registration plate which draws unnecessary cop attention and at times harassment.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

I got my CBR 250R from Pondicherry in 2012, rode it in Bangalore for 2 years, no problems...

Riding it in Patna for 1.5 yrs, no problems... This is my personal experience.

I've met many people with registration numbers different from the state they are driving in and they also feel its ok to do so. You can get an NOC from the RTO, I believe its valid for a year.

How many times did you interact(or stopped by) with Bengalore T-Police during this period?

Do you have/had a NOC now/then (all this time out of Pondicherry/Puducherry)?

I got ticketed for illegal U-turn, overspeeding, parking in no-parking etc, once my bike got towed as well.... but even though the cops noticed that it was a pondi registration they didn't fine me for that...

I've never had NOC, its just for your peace of mind.

I have 2004 model MH registered pulsar which is used in Punjab from January 2005.
Till date i have been stopped many times by police and they just let me go after checking RC, insurance and PUC, nobody has never said a word about outside registration.

And we have Ludhiana registered Yamaha SZ in Nagpur from past 2 year and its never fined for outside state registration.

You can buy a bike anywhere in India but register it in the place you want to use it.

Its sad to hear that, actually I was in Bangalore CBR Riders group and we had more than 700 members back in 2013. Many people had TN, KL, AP registrations and most did not have that registration issue. I guess it just depends what kind of a mood the cops are in...
