  • Discussion on the even-odd rule

So you all know about the Even-Odd rule that is going to be implemented for Cars. Ofcourse there are talks that this rule might come to Motorcycles as well.

In my opinion this is a pretty bad idea to begin with. Instead of reducing number of vehicles on the road, why not stop and detain vehicles that clearly show discharge of thick White/Black smoke. This can be done after giving a public announcement and then giving a deadline to fix their vehicles or stop using them. RTA buses and private Lorries alone are seen to be heavily damaged and give out black smoke majority of the time.

What is your opinion regarding this?

    GBD approved!

2 wheelers are exempt from this rule by the way!

Source - 20 categories exempt: Two-wheelers, women drivers, hybrid cars, VVIPs except Delhi CM Kejriwal | The Indian Express

Autos, commercial vehicles etc are not, because in my opinion they form Mr. K's vote bank. It's a poor attempt, intended to only milk the tax payer.
In my opinion, we should start paying LTT for 7.5 years now.

Rather, improve the metro connectivity at major connecting stations and bring better buses, not the usual stinking ones. Nobody wants to spend 3-4 hours in traffic anyways.

Thanks for that, dint know the exemption rule. But yes, as you have mentioned, its only to milk the tax payers. Bringing better buses or atleast fixing teh current ones, banning OLD unmaintained vehicles, lets not forget proper garbage disposal instead of Burning them off. As far as I have seen, these 3 entities contribute the most to City pollution.

One person from Bangy and the other from Hyderabad!

If you were caught in the thick smoke of Delhi, maybe you would have a different outlook. That is if you could see anything through this thick smoke

I support it to a considerable extent, though i do not know how easy would it be for the vehicles on the road to be regulated!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

I understand what you are saying, but heres teh thing, reducing vehicles that run clean (assuming atleast half of them are) is not going to improve air quality unless the actual polluters are fixed or banned.

The roads of Delhi are traffic jammed throughout the day. Not just rush hour.

It is funny when car drivers complain about being stuck in traffic. They aren't stuck in traffic, they are the traffic If this reduces the congestion on the road, that will help traffic flow better, people will have to drive in 1st gear less, stand at traffic signals for very little time and reach office and home faster.

A reasonably good trade-off for people having to resort to car pooling!

The biggest challenge is to get Delhiites to swallow their egos and leave their humongous SUVs at home.

            ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Oh and i missed out on the best bit. This will only apply to Cars. So Yay

And i quote the very respected Rajiv Bajaj -

It is an effort by Mr K to check the pollution, Atleast he is on to something unlike other Politicians in this country who only preach and doesnt act.

Even if the traffic comes down by 20%, that will make a huge difference. It can be a serious pain to get stuck in Delhi traffic with that smog!

For Eg: Since its a long weekend, lot many are on leave in Bangalore which meant lot many vehicles we off the road, it makes commuting easier. If this translates in Delhi, it could be a solution for other cities too facing this traffic madness. This however is a temporary solution, this needs to be backed up with more efficient Public Transport System.
