    Retrofitting ABS on non-ABS Bikes

    I wanted to understand and discuss if we can retrofit ABS Systems on Non-ABS bikes. I'm taking about a proper ABS and not the mechanical ones ...

    Where can we buy this in India (or US if needed)
    How would the Pulsar ring be attached to the existing disk
    Can we have it turned off when not needed ... so on and so forth.

    If not possible to retrofit, can we lift the front brake assembly of ... say the Apache RTR and fix it on the Yamaha FZ !!!

    BOSCH makes a great low cost single channel ABS called ABS Light ... which has the following components

    1. ECU Unit
    2. Speed sensor
    3. Hydraulic Unit ....

    "The system determines the speed of the wheel using a sensor and adjusts the braking pressure accordingly. The actual speed of the vehicle is also continuously measured and taken into account in the system's calculations in order to guarantee maximum vehicle stability.

    Many of the components used in ABS light can also be found in high-performance Bosch systems, and the software has been optimized for the entry-level market."

    I remember reading about this Bosch ABS system somewhere. I don't know if it is already available.

      BOSCH had announced back in 2010 about bringing ABS for Bikes.

      Their 9th generation ABS - A single channel ABS called ABS Light was introduced for the Pulsar RS200 which also has a rear lift sensor.

      If it is not possible to retrofit an new ABS system on our existing rides ... then can we savage parts from bikes with ABS and fit them on to our bikes.

        I thought of asking the same question from above for all diy guys... I can see everything modified by some of diy guys... Why not ABS..? Has anyone done..? If not Bosch, atleast can we buy tvs full ABS and fix it to ns or as 200..? Can we buy d390 ABS and fix it in d200..?

          Surprised to see so little mileage on this thread. Maybe the disks are locked :-P Anyways, I'm planning to buy the braking assembly of an RTR and try and see if I can put it to work on a 2010 FZ16.

          I just wish someone with higher knowledge than me advised me if it were a good idea or a futile attempt saving me from wasting moolah.

          But again, fortune apparently does something to the brave. Lets see....

            I don't know much about diy... If u r buying tvs ABS then consider cbr's c-abs also... There are pro's and con's in both but I'm not telling one is better than other... Just a random suggestion...

              CBR's C-ABS system is a different beast all together. The C-ABS system behaves such that the back brake actuates both the front and back brakes in proportion. While the front brake actuates the front calipers while also the engage a secondary master for the rear.

              This thing is so complex that it almost adds 8 kgs to the bike itself and considering its value to be (bike with ABS - bike without ABS) ... around 30K.

              For 30K, I'd rather buy another FZ :-P ... I'm inclined toward RTR because with the above logic this one costs around 10K. That cheap because it is a simple single channel ABS with a rear lift sensor only.

                I think you might have seen it when RS200 was promoted with the SIngle Channel ABS.

                    Tvs ABS single channel..? All these days I thought its full ABS... Rs200 is single channel but rtr iam not sure...

                      Correction - RTR has dual channel abs with rear wheel lift off protection ('rwlp' as marketed by tvs)

                        Apache RTR 180 has a 'dual channel' ABS. But considering the test bike being a single disk motorcycle will have to go by that and rather than the mule.

                          The rs200 has single channel abs i.e abs acts only on the front wheel. You can still lock/slide the rear wheel.
                          The rtr180 has dual channel abs i.e abs acts on both front and rear wheel. (or probably 2 single channel systems for each wheel, as you said)
                          Now im not really sure what is the single/double disc that you are talking about.

                            Dual discs at the front as seen on bigger bikes ....anyways just nomenclature.
