  • Have anyone tried riding Duke 390 in sand successfully.?

My old Fiero F2 rides well I sand so i thought Duke 390 with more engine power & wider tyres could easily drive through.

But I was wrong. Every time I tried riding in sand it got stuck.

I think it's Cz of no buttons in Metzeler & round section of tyre which digs in adding to weight of the bike

The only time I got success riding in sand is in Point calimere in Vedaranyam, TN where the sand is silty & moist.

And in Velankanni, TN where I have to cross a small patch of dry sand to reach the wet sand but ended up splashing salt water in my bike which started rust formation.

Have anyone tried driving bikes in sand successfully??

If so give me tips on how to do it.

Topic Approved, moved to General Biking Discussion Section.

I've ridden it in sands, but not the beach kind, more of the desert kind. Not much problems encountered.

In such a situation as you mentioned, try riding a little faster than usual, that may help... The more you stop, the more you risk sinking in, in my opinion.

Desert sand. Like. What would be the depth.

Yea as long as I keep on riding it won't sink. The moment I stop it's an rescue mission for me. And uphill driving in sand dunes not at all possible.

Would changing tyres to button kinda one like CEAT vertigo helps.

With that power duke could take us anywhere but Metzeler won't work well with off road. And for sand I dunno what tyres ll do.

I suppose if you ride on low tyre pressure, things should be better. It would provide more surface area and thus reduce the sinking a bit.
        just a guess.

Just for your information, using vehicles on the beach is illegal in India except for the lifeguard vehicles.

Depth maybe ok ok. not enough to sink the bike anyways.
Yes, changing tyres to Ceat Vertigo will help.

Metzelers are still the best on road/ race tyres though, but they do an ok ok job at off roading, they're not that bad but clearly not as good as other tyres.

Ride with 50% tyre pressure as mentioned by Jagan689 and that should help. Thats how desert Safari vehicles work in gulf.

My next tire gonna be ceat vertigo. As am more off-road kinda guy. Wish there was better dual sport tyre in our country.
Heard that michelins do better than Metz off-road but not best

Yea I gotta install an bike charging port & take air pump with me in my next trip so I could drive with full pressure back on road.

When you feel like you're going to get stuck, accelerate in the 1st gear but slowly at as low rpms as possible... This helps the tyre to grip and help you out of the tight situation. Mostly, riders rev up and wheelspin hard when they're stuck and instead of moving ahead, they start sinking underneath due to displaced sand...

But I guess, its too late for this advice... is it? (?)
