  • Wrapping a Helmet!!

    Hello Brothers,

I am planning on wrapping my MT Axxis helmet using 3M wraps. Any pointers, or even a push in the right direction is appreciated.

PS: Don't ask me why I am doing it, it just occurred to me.

      Re: Wrapping a Helmet!!

It's not a wise move to wrap a helmet, Cause overtime the aerosols in the adhesives will eat up all the styrofoam in the protective layer! (I'm exaggerating a bit here. Okay, lets say that the aerosols in the adhesives might degrade the strength of the EPS layer overtime.)

If you still want your helmet to be wrapped, then make sure you got alot of wrap sheet / vinyl than you think you will need to wrap it. Cause when the wrap is applied over the curved surface of the helmet it will require even more vinyl. Some say the vinyl can be stretched with heat, but this won't be sufficient. The use of heat gun will mostly help in applying the vinyl over uneven surfaces. And make sure the vinyl / wrap you use is thick enough, cause using a thin vinyl will make it prone to the slightest hits, Even a slight ding will scratch and scuff up the vinyl layer and sooner the lid will look pathetic! (Happened to me).

If you are using any pre-cut wrap / vinyl made specifically for helmet wrapping, it'd be much better. But it is an almost impossible find here in India. If possible get a custom print done in some car decal shop. I don't know the material of the sheet used in this printing but it is a kind of a flex printing thing that we see in those wrapped Dio's and R15's. Search for wrap templates to make a print. You can find it on the web for popular helmet models. But for MT Axxis? There won't be any I guess. You have to make one in photoshop. Good luck!
