  • Inferior service experience by KTM

A series of incidents happened just because of Kirti Nagar KTM.

First time when I got the chain set replaced (11k kms on odo approx) , after reaching home I got a call from mechanic stating that "sir mei sprocket tight karna bhool gya" (Sir, I forgot to tighten the sprocket) and I was like WTF!

Alright, somehow the next day I went to showroom but I realised that the exhaust note of my bike had changed since the day I got new chain set and gasket changed. The guy took a test ride and replied "sir ye aage lage visor ki sound hai exhaust theek hai" (Sir, the visor up front is causing this sound. Exhaust is ok.) I had to go home that day anyhow. Then I decided to put the same on social media and mailed the incident KTM India & their North India ASM MR Mihir. Got a callback and they asked me to visit the centre.

So next day I went and they decided to replace the exhaust assembly under warranty and 15 days later when I got it replaced, the guy came back after a test ride and we both found coolant was leaking out of nowhere and I was like WTF!
So the showroom people replaced the coolant and radiator and I went home "happily".

Oh wait! I never knew they ****ed up the bike again which I realised yesterday on 26th June after riding 500kms! I noticed the coolant level had dropped down to minimum so I contaccted Kirti Nagar manager and he replied "sir ye ho jaata hai kabhi kabhi new radiator mei, aap isko top up karlo" (Sir, it happens sometimes on a new radiator, please get the coolant topped up)
I was strandled in the middle of road 35kms ahead of Dehradoon towards Paonta Sahib when I noticed the color of engine oil had changed to mud brown with some bubbles all around which happens when engine oil and coolant are mixed also level of coolant dropped down to minimum. I somehow reached KTM Dehradoon. The guy at centre decided to open the clutch cover and check if any traces of coolant were there inside or not. We drained the engine oil and found it was more than 1.5lts which is not possibe (He said me that Kirti Nagar people would haved topped it up, which I on confirmed KTM people never top-up the oil) also the coolant amount was somewhere around 870ml which should've been 1000ml. Now as per him there were no traces of coolant inside the clutch but he had no appropriate answer that how the amount of engine oil increased and coolant deacreased. So just to resolve the matter at that point the did the draining process and at last refilled the coolant and engine oil. I was not at all satisfied and I conatacted Mr Mihir again and he told "sir aap 4/5kms city ride karo (Sir, try riding for 4-5 kms in the city) if you find issue we will take care. and I said, what if while travelling to Delhi something happens, he had no appropriate answer. Brought the bike back to Delhi yesterday, waiting for a callback from KTM India now.

PS:- 3 months while riding to Mumbai, front rim got bend near Surat at 4am when i hit some small iron rod.

Re: Crappy service centre by KTM

    Topic Approved.

Keeping it here for better view, so that BAL officials can see it easily, and revert back. Because, these issues have been there for a long time now.

Meanwhile, @rakshit.makkar you keep us updated of your communication with BAL regarding this... Do use only English on the forum though.

I had a very similar issue on my R15. A broken oil seal in the water pump was the culprit which allowed coolant to mix with the engine oil. Ask the service center guys to check the water pump assembly thoroughly. For reference here's a pic of the oil seal (part labelled 2) in R15.
