News on HOGs - A Shameful Act of Biking Brotherhood?
This recent news appalled the biker in me as well as brought to the forefront the lack of common human decency. My heart goes out to the surviving members of yet another rider going down and serves as a grim reminder to the dangers of riding motorcycles. ATGATT and riding safely should remain paramount to all of us and at each time we ride a bike.

Moved to GBD section and approved!
We don't know the full story but this indeed sounds bordering on the inhumane and gut wrenching side of things. And as we already know, good quality riding gear and discipline on the roads is of paramount importance. I've heard that the HD rider hit a truck/bus head on and no gear would have saved him, but if the deceased's wife is 100% correct in her account, then so called "biker brothers" should cease to exist.
But we should wait for the whole story to unfold.
P.S - that's why I personally avoid attending huge events like IBW because a big chunk of the participants are jokers who only bring a bad name to an otherwise decent road user.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
Because everyone who passes, isn't a martyr!

Re: News on HOGs - A Shameful Act of Biking Brotherhood?
A website claims that 20-25 bikers took the injured man to both hospitals, the PHC and then the big hospital.
The bikers left the hospital only after the injured man's relatives came and he was declared dead.
Goa was only 50 kms away with accomodation booked there and Pune was 400 kms away. They had to make the decision late in the night, with no accommodation in the town where the biker was admitted to hospital.
The headlines of the online papers read as if the other HOG members left their injured member to die on the road, and merrily partied in Goa.Last edited by leech; 02-21-2017, 10:54 AM.

The link below from a follow-up on this unfortunate event from yesterday's Pune Mirror. Seems like conflicting stories are abound.

While all riding & brotherhood is respected, you cannot say all those relatives, his own friends, the police the other riders who came in later from Kolhapur all are lying!
And this is nothing new, in today's day & age these things are common. I attended the Paris-Brest-Paris cycling endurance in 2011, there too one cyclist had died in an accident while a few who where there with him waited many others simply continued.

This bolsters the family's claims. However, in the picture the bike looks largely undamaged, which would not be the case if he hit a bus head on.Originally posted by akshay View PostThe link below from a follow-up on this unfortunate event from yesterday's Pune Mirror. Re: News on HOGs - A Shameful Act of Biking Brotherhood?
I wanted to start a thread on this but found this one.
On Saturday and Sunday I was on a road trip with my girlfriend while I spotted a bunch of Harley riders on the other side of the road. Later that evening, read the same news in Pune mirror.
Whatever the truth is, it is utterly sad to even think of the situation his wife was put in.
Regards.

Re: News on HOGs - A Shameful Act of Biking Brotherhood?
I have a question to ask - is it expensive to hire an ambulance for the group rides that HOG organizes?
Even if it costs ₹50k, they could split it up, and between 10 riders, ₹5000 is literally peanuts compared to what they pay for their bikes.
