    Thread Approved

I have read about incidents like this with alarming frequency in my hometown. Once even i had a near escape.

I was riding on an elevated expressway and i saw a kite fly past me. I didn't think too much of it then. But when i went home, i saw my backpack strap was slit. The outer material was cut clean through, and the inner padding was visible. I was lucky that it was not a few inches higher and to the left, else it would have been my throat. I was fully geared up, but except extreme winter, it is unlikely that your throat will be covered.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

I had the bright idea of riding around in Jaipur on January 14, Makar Sankranti.
Some manja that was lying across the road hit my helmet and went upwards (visor was open), and gave me a bad cut at the top of the nose that required two stitches to fix.
The cut was not very deep because the helmet was surrounding my face and the thread could only go inwards as deep as the helmet allowed.
Had the manja gone downwards after hitting the helmet, it would have cut the throat.

After that I don't ride around in that season for a few days before and after the festival. It's dangerous stuff.

Many people/kids are cut by manja every year in Rajasthan, many die as well. I've not seen much kite flying in the south though.

Thats very unfortunate. Even i have heard news of such incidents in past. We should have a separate band surrounding our neck like a wrist band. If leather made then better. That should help in such circumstances.

May his soul rest in peace. And let's pray for his father to recover soon.

Me too got entangled by loose maanja thread while tailing a Volvo city bus just opposite DLF IT park in Chennai .in seconds it flew and entangled over my whole upper body . and I couldn't move an inch from motorcycle as the thread got struck to my bike's rear wheel. Luckily I was moving at 20-30 kmph that time so I managed to stop immediately with few cuts in hand and hip. fellow road users came to my rescue.

Still I get my spine chilled when ever I remember that incident.
Its always better to sweat than to bleed. Wear helmet.

I got a slit above my eye ... barely missed by a few mm. No I was not on a bike ... but rather on a boat in Varanasi. My hand got cut badly as I held on to the thread so that it won't hit my 9 month old niece.
When I'm on the road, I'm indestructible. No one can stop me... but they try.
