  • Bike Jargon - Some technical help related to parts

    Hi all

Actually i had asked this same question in "zma to the max"
but i didnt seem to get the replies so i thought that i should start a new topic plz "mods" dont mind.

I am a new to biking and wanted to make a few concepts clear.

I dont know the following technical aspects of bike can some one help me out here.

    1.> what is actually "120/90 or 120/80 or 130/80 ..."
    what are these figures actually.

2.> I also wanted to know that using Michelins M45 or Pirellis on the
rear will provide me with better grip but will it accomodate on
the stock karizma i mean without any modification. Is it ok that
if i keep the front tyre as the default i.e. zapper or will i
have to put it in the front also. Does a single rear tyre cost
    2.5 to 3k

3.> What these terms mean "Full faring or small BELLY pan " where
they actually fit in a bike.

The widest you can put are 120/80 rear...any wider and it touches the stuff on bike....avoid a full fairing, increases weight, reduces performance and Is more prone to 'cracks'...
    -------------

If this is so how much will a michelin m45 120/80 cost if its available and what kind ok grip will i get , will it affect my mileage.

Please dont laugh at me as i am in the process of learing from guys like you who are full with wealth of knowledge.

Wating for reply from ur side.

If some one can provide links where this things are explained with visuals will be fine .

    The answers to your queries,
    1. 120/90, 120/80 etc is the size of the tyres. More importantly, it's width. Like a 100/80 tyre is thinner than 120/80.

    2. Michelin or Pirellis will definately give u better grip and yes, they will accomodate easily on the stock Zma. You can keep the front tyre as it is. It's quite adequate, hence no need to change it. The price depends upon company to company. Like a Micheli/Pirelli will definately cost more than Duro, MRF etc. They can even go above 3k.

    3. Full fairing is when u are not able to see the engines of the bike at all, in its simplest definition. They totally cover the mechanical portion of the bike. Look at any of the sports bike like Yamaha R1, Honda CBR, Suzuki GSX-R etc. Moreover, if u watch moto gp, or bike racing on tv, u'll understand what full fairing is. Belly pan is below the bending of the exhaust pipe emerging fron the engine. It is used to give a better look and increase the aerodynamics of the bike.

The michelins or other thicker tyres WILL affect ur mileage by approx. 2-3kmpl. Bur in return, u get astounding grip and eye-catching looks. Hope this solves ur queries.
