I'm myself exploring options for an electric scooter/motorcycle dealership in my own city, that can provide good speeds with decent range and cost benefit. I'm considering Tork & Katalyst for the same. Talks with Ather have unfortunately ended due to their home delivery focus...

All these years, I've seen most Indian brands trying to sell us electric bikes with inferior Lead acid batteries, which hardly last for 6 months or so. Frankly, they are the ones who've spoiled the market, maybe beyond a possible revival.

The same e bikes being sold for 35,000-40,000 in retail, are now available for "8000/- negotiable" on olx.




Although, good news is that, in India, manufacturers like Ather, Tork, Katalyst, etc are leading the way with better Lithium-Ion batteries, which should be great!


My question is, why the focus on being cheap?? Electric bikes have the following advantages:-

1. Immense running costs benefit, almost 10 paise/ km, which is like a petrol vehicle with 700 kmpl mileage!
2. Requires less to no service, again savings,
3. Instant torque off the line, or for carrying weight,
4. Freedom from gear shifting, something which made Activa a success, although transmission is possible where you could even pickup from the top most (6th?) gear,
5. Can run underwater with decent protection enabled,
6. Pollution being diverted elsewhere,

Only two decent demerits left today are, 1. charging time, 2. range on a single charge, which makes it unsuitable for touring, but what about commuting?

But then, Lightning is about to make a bike with 500 mile, 800 kms range, that would kill it while touring too!!
