Rain Gear Recommendation thread

Guys,

Till now, I was using a rain gear bought from Malayasia for around 1200 bucks. Worked well in India, but torn apart recently while riding in rains in Australia due to high velocity winds.

And since the monsoons are about to hit the country once again and it will be raining soon all over the country, to prepare myself in advance, I was looking for rain gear on some of the Indian riding gear websites and didn't find anything. Checked Rynox & Spartan, nothing listed on their website at least.

Most of the riding jackets/pants come with their own rain liners, but I am looking for standalone recommendations, something that I can wear over my leather suit as well!

So, could you please share the names/brands of the rain gear that you are using on your long rides/commute and also a short review of how it is serving you?

Have been using the rain gear from Decathlon for two seasons on a trot now. I think it is an in-house brand and hence didn't find any name on it other than Decathlon.

It has served me well and would recommend to all who is looking for a rain gear with minimal budget.

If i remember correctly, costed me 1650 (including the jacket and trousers). It is available off the shelf in all of their stores.

thanks WindPacer, there have been 3-4 recommendations till now and all of them have recommended Decathlon..

Depends on your budget as well.

If cheap and best works for you then try the rain gear at Decathlon. They are in the 500-1000 range and should last 2-3 monsoon seasons. At times they are on sale in Decathlon outlets as well.

Wildcraft has rain gear in the 2000 bucks and above price range and they work well during monsoons.

Timberland, Nike, Adidas and Puma have rain gear but they price them in the 5K above price range. Not many dealers stock these and might need to find them online ecommerce sites.

Decathlon works best for me and I picked up the jacket and pant in 500-800 bucks range each during a sale. Lasted 3 monsoons and bought another set from Decathlon in the same price Range.

Okay. The budget is definitely an issue. Also what I am looking for is something that is designed specifically for bikers; i.e., seam/material should be strong enough to take wind pressure of riding above 100 kmph. I won't be doing those speeds in India, but had to ride for 600 kms in pouring rain at 100+ speeds in Australia and the rain suit gave up. I don't think Nike/Adidas/similar brands would design anything that in mind.

Decathlon has couple of inhouse brands with different prices. I believe one is normal rain wear and one is for trekkers with a different seam. You can check that. Also do check wildcraft and timberland if you want a stronger seam or material. There must be shops in you city where they sell north face or international brands for merchant navy guys. I know one in Chennai. They are cheaper than import and merhcant navy guys pick rain wear or winter wear from them regularly.
