  • Restoration: Hero Honda CBZ Classic ( With Hunk's Heart )

    Introduction

    It all started in 2012, when I was searching for a 150cc bike. At that I am using a Bajaj boxer and it is not so comfortable for me to ride. I searched for a good 150cc bike in olx and other classifieds. But I can't able to find one according to my budget.
    But one day, when i was travelling to Trivandrum, I saw a black cbz at a local used bike shop. I Immediately stopped the car and asked the shop owner about the price of the cbz and his price is okay for me. I gave him some cash as an advance.
    On the next morning I went to the shop and clear all the formalities. First ride with her to home was really awesome. i don't know how to explain that feeling,;Maybe many of us here knows how it feels..

    But after 2/3 months i realize that the milage was low according to today's 150cc bikes ( But the power delivery was awesome in old cbz) and the lack of self starter keeps me irritating. I went to ask about the Hero Honda guys about adding self to my cbz,they said that it was too costly and i need to buy a lot of engine components.
    I was really disappointed, but i never lose hope. I visited the motorcycle junkyard searching for those parts. In the junkyard, I found a lot of motorcycle engines. But i got a minor heart attack when i found a Hunk's engine in that junkyard!. That strikes an idea in my mind and i asked the staff about the price of that engine! He said the can gave it for me at 3000 bucks!!!
    That is very very cheaper than converting my old engine to self start! i run a immediate checkup that if the engine is blocked or not. It was a quite good engine accoding to my checkup!!

    I brought this engine and bring it to the HH Service Center and asked them to swap the engine! They look at me in a way that " Is he Nuts??".
    After a little conversation about the swapping, they agreed to swap it. Then the mechanic told me the i need to buy some more parts as the old parts are not suitable for the new engine.

    The parts i need to buy are:-

    * Carburator
    * Engine Holding Clamp
    * Battery Box
    * CDI Unit
    * Rectifier
    * Wiring Kit

    I know that it may damage my pocket heavily if i consider buying these as new parts. So i searched each used spare shop and junkyards for these parts. after visiting 2/3 shops, I found an old engine seized cbz Xtreme in a junkyard.
    i got very excited and i removed all the parts i needed from that bike and all those parts cost me only 1000!!

    Then i ran to the HH service center and those guys can't believe that I purchased all those spares for 1000 bucks. ( I think they will think that i may drop my plan when i heard the price of the spares... )

    It takes two days to complete the works.The new engine feels very smooth and the mileage increased a lot when compared to the old engine.
    I am very happy with the new engine and the feather touch self start gives me more confidence and makes my riding more stress free. I ride her approx. 30 kms daily for almost 3 years and the engine runs perfectly and never ever gives me trouble.

    Today's Condition ?
    When the new family members arrived to my family ( Classic 350 & FZ-16) i gave her a little rest for about 1 year.
    But when i tried to start her yesterday i found

    * Rust all over the body parts
    * Fadded Body Paint
    * Rear Wheel stucked
    * Badly Rusted Rims
    * Brake Caliper rusted and damaged

    Whats Next?

    I am trying to do a complete restoration of my cbz and i need valuable advice's in this restoration from the experienced cbz owners and other experienced members.

    Topic Approved.

    Wow...

    With such experience, you could've opened a youtube channel with the name "Make your own bike from junk" and earned back each spent rupee...

    Jokes apart, this is the true spirit of Jugaad! I hope you complete your restoration in the memory of older days. All the best. Post some pics so that members can help you...

        Damn engine is the identity of bike, its not a cbz anymore, anyway, both mcwheels of unicorn is direct fit even disc brake too, you can go further and add monoshock and swingarm of unicorn. First go for chasis, removing rust, patching weak sections with metal sheet by welding and then color, all this parts you can get in junkyard except rear mono suspension, plz buy new one
