Sure, I'm all up for saving the environment.

I ride a 2014 R15 V2 and wouldn't mind it in full electric avatar as long as I get the same acceleration and decent range for daily office commute.
I would miss changing the gears on the ultra slick gearbox and will have to ride it like a gearless scooter, but as long as I get similar power and acceleration out of it, I am willing to give it a go.
Currently the main issue with e-vehicles is the battery replacement every 4-5 years (even soon depending on the usage). The more advanced the battery, the more expensive it would be to replace. So as long as the battery replacement cost is equal to my 5 year service bill of petrol powered bike and it satisfies all the above conditions, I would gladly ride a e R15 to office everyday.

No, because for the time being, "electric" really just means "coal-powered but since you can't see the pollution we can pretend it's clean", and because I ride an expedition bike, and value the ability to not spend an hour or more at each refuelling plus electric charging stations can be hard to find out in the mountains.

Electric is fine if you never go anywhere farther than your local market on your bike, and in that respect electric bikes might be a good choice for the "Mango Man" riders, but this is a motorcycle enthusiast forum, and we aspire to do more than just commute to work on our bikes; for the enthusiast, an electric bike is still no more than an impractical curiosity, and is likely to stay that way for at least another 5-7 years at best, and unless someone rewrites the laws of thermodynamics electric bikes are always going to be inferior to petrol power.

I can agree that electric bikes are not exactly eco-friendly when you consider how they're being charged as majority of the power source is from coal but countries like Germany are committing to become 100% renewable energy by 2030 and also even in India good initiatives have been taken.

Also by the time electric technology becomes mainstream and trickles down to small bike manufacturers I think there will be a better battery technology and also better charging capabilities and probably all petrol stations will have charging (very long shot but eventually).

Discussing the environmental aspect of E-vehicles will derail this thread, so we better not do that please.
But, do consider that with e-vehicles:
1. it is simpler to control the air pollution at the source of electricity production, than to plug millions of tail pipes,
and,
2. the electricity generation can and does happen mostly in non-urban centres thereby taking the effluents away from cities, something that is impossible to achieve in cities if millions of fuel powered vehicles are plying daily,
but,
3. there is the additional aspect of safely disposing of the consumed batteries that is still a huge area of concern.

Let's not get into this convoluted debate.

Like Roy bro commented above, pollution at Power generation can be controlled well and efficiently than on the road. Case on point, people like to remove the catcon and many don't even bother with the proper combustion setting based on pollution tests. Punching holes in exhaust and removing the catcon and other shit inside it is a commonplace practice by people these days.

In light of such conditions, electric bikes make sense. Since some people mention that these are for commuter only and not for touring and long distance, it can be helpful in curbing the pollution in the cities as most people use bikes/scoots to commute.

Next up, the problem of long distance can be solved by battery leasing programs, with easy to swap technology. And given we have enough batteries on the system so that one can simply head over to petrol pump/gas station and simply swap the battery for a charged one for a fee. Another thing to consider is that such long distance and touring bikes should have 2-3 such batteries. But still, for adventure tourers to have all electric power train would be a tough thing like the mountain says.

I understand but imagine there's a perfect world where electric bikes are just as capable and usable as normal bike would you consider it over normal bike as your "main" bike or it would be just a office goer/grocery getter ?

Agreed that electric bike are eco friendly and helps in reducing pollution but there are still many drawbacks too. It can prove more expensive than normal petrol bikes because of short batteries life and so the durability is less as compared to petrol bike. So I'd rather prefer petrol bike.
