It's easy to conclude that the owner is negligent for the fact that he trusted the bike to road-side mechanic knowing the engine has siezed. He could have taken the bike after seeing broken spark plug/noise he experienced while siezure. At the end of the day he's not even sure if the spares were genuine or not
My vague guess is that this guy may have some enemies who might have drained the oil deliberately to cause damage to his wallet

I did suggest the owner to manage to take the bike till chennai by a passing lorry/Van and drop it at a known reputed mechanic of mine near kodambakkam, Well he was in a hurry got the work done by a road side mechanic

Unfortunately, I have seen this before. On my first bike, the Energy, during its 5th service the service station guy drained the oil but forgot to refill it. about 150 KM later the bike seized and when we opened the engine the piston was in pieces and the rings were not there.

In my personal opinion, I believe the owner has neglected to check his oil level consistently, which is a normal thing for most people. Out of our daily grind most people often tend to forget.

For the future, please check the oil level in every 500 KM and also hear any funny sound from the engine, immediately get it checked out from an experienced mech.

          As far as i understand.....

it becomes evident and feel-able when a bike runs without oil....!

Even if the quantity of oil is less, we can feel that in not more than 30-40kms......

Without oil, how can he not know about it and run for 200kms.....

Yes, lots of tinny noise can be heard if oil is minimal.

Dont know what happened exactly in this case

Reminds me of a funny story. In the garage i used get my bike serviced at once came a guy with a caliber 115. the bike had seized. when we opened the engine it had almost no oil and whatever oil was left was thinner than water. When asked about his last oil change his response was " oil change hota hai kya? ohhhh, mujhe laga ki last service me company jo oil dala wo ek saal do saal chal jayega".

But then, if the owner of the bike does say that he had been changing the engine oil regularly at 2000 kms, then it might not be due to engine oil. I mean 2000kms is decent intervals. Only thing is there most pple generally give the bike to the mechs for oil change and do not check if the oil is actually changed or not !!

There have been many incidents, even with authorised service centres (actually more with Authorised service centres) where they bill you for the oil change but they don't !

Also there might be a one off structural quality issue with the engine. I know a person in US who has an Aquila and his piston also got into pieces and it turns out that there was some structural problem in the camshaft (bubbles inside the rod - bad metullergy) that made it cave in !

I'd assume Honda has very good quality control, but one off cases do happen !! Also if there is a prob in the piston ring and the engine is burning oil, there will be plenty of visual warning with smoke coming out of the exhaust !!

But he shud've gotten the bike checked by an authorised service centre to ascertain y did that happen.

                cheers.

I guess its a typo! he meant 3500.. going by the parts changed, it cannot be more than that!

On the other side, it is really onfortunate..i too had a seized piston on my apache-150, but i was still able to drive to the SC However, it could never behave like a stock after that..sold it off 2 weeks back and got a ZMA!

That's very sad. But the owner must have gone to a authorised HH centre rather than to any roadside mech if he wants to have peace of mind...

PERSEVERE... failure is not an option!

since ur frnd was so near to vellore, he shud have taken the bike to a authorised hero honda service station in vellore and asked them to change the bore and piston with OE parts. never trust ur engine work on some road side mechanic, atleast whom u dont even know before.
like ppl here told, the engine oil wud never have been changed earlier, or else it cud be a problem of leaking rings or worn out valve oil seals. both of these will burn oil out within 100kms, considering he had travelled from bangalore till vellore which is a good 200kms and that too at high rpms of above 6k rpm.
I scuffed the piston on my pulsar, when i took it for a long ride with the valve oil seal worn and burning engine oil. mid way i noticed the exhaust with white smokeand straight away rode back to my mechs place and opened the engine. i had to replace the broe and piston with NEW O.E parts as rebores will surely let down in a few months if not properly done. so better ask ur frnd to change the BORE, PISTON and rings with new OE parts if he is not sure of the parts genuinety.

They drove the CBZ to the "Xtreme"

I always service my vehicle at the authorized service center but I change the oil and Battery acid/distilled water in a nearby service station prior going for a service.

Mechanics at the authorized service center hardly change these oil / battery related (hidden) things.
