1. In March, we were returning from a wedding. I was driving the car with my family. A fatal accident happened right in front of me where in a R15 v2 banged into an omni which was crossing a junction. A moment ago my parents had raised their concern when the R15 overtook us. I was lecturing them that the he is completely kitted and riding safe when this accident happened. The impact was so bad that the R15 completely shattered. He was doing around 90+kph which is serious overspeeding on our narrow Kerala roads. No fault of the omni driver.
2. We were going to Coimbatore for my sisters medical exam. My car was consistently cruising at 90-100kph when a biker group consisting of ktm 200s and pulsar200s overtook us from right and left. Now two guys of the group were riding parallel to each other and trying to talk at 100+kph! They could just halt or at least slow down, but no they have to talk with their helmets on that too on a six lane highway. My father was really pissed off at this sight.
3. I saw a video in which a dominar guy is chasing a wagonr at 150+kph. He is seen trying hard to catch the wagonr. I own a wagonr and can say that it reaches 160+kph speeds easily on open highways. But many bikers can't acknowledge it when I overtake them at 110 or 120+kph. I am not recommending to do such speeds as even 100kph on our highways is not safe. But doing 150+ just to catch a car and cool your ego is suicidal.
4. In 2017, a brand new Duke 390 crashed into an auto rickshaw at 100+kph. Both the rider and the driver of the auto died. The place where this incident happened is pretty near to my house. The rider was Very young. No helmet, no safety gear, nothing. Even in the cctv footage the bike was so fast that we could hardly see it.
I myself go on long rides. We have bikes like RTR 200, gixxer SF, yamaha rx135 5speed, suzuki shogun, etc.in our group. But my parents are always skeptical due to what they see. If you are ATGATT people think you are going to race! If you are riding a Duke or pulsar, cops tend to stop and fine you for no reason at all. The situation had become so worse that my local RTO had banned registration of dukes and R15 for many months.
Kids are straight away jumping to 200cc+ bikes right after learning to ride. Showing off has become the priority over developing riding skills. Responsible riding has become a joke. Overall these senseless riders (or squids disguised as riders) are creating a very bad reputation for the bikes and the bigger biking community alike.
Yours truly,
Motoman
