      In my experience it is about 20 hrs of head time that will lead to the helmet breaking in. Also in case the helmet inner lining is removable, then a wash after this duration would help the helmet interiors and the sponge to break in evenly. If the helmet has a very snug fit then in this time the inner EPS liner would expand and recontour itself to take the shape of the head.

      Another important observation is that this break in period is accelerated if the helmet is worn in peak summer conditions and you sweat copiously into the liner. While not the best way to break in a helmet but there is nothing wrong in it. You could wear a balaclava to control the sweating better. I always wear a balaclava when going for longish ride especially when I am sure I would be sweating a lot. Essential for city riding condition s.
