    Unfortunate but true.

Well, it's absolutely true. People simply don't care for the poor things. And a lot of them boast of their 'achievements' in a very matter-of-fact way. As an animal lover (I make a lot of stray friends wherever I stay), I find this attitude completely sick and disgusting. Yes, there are people who do it on purpose even when it can be avoided.

These sickos should be shown how it feels to be run over.

The overall situation is quite disheartening.

Imagine you are returning home from your college which is 25kms away. You are one of those idealistic safe riders who hardly overspeed or overtake. A dog is crossing the road.He is halfway through. Knowing it's safe to accelerate you do and then all of a sudden the dog decides to turn tail and return the way it came at full speed. The only difference is,you are now in the middle of his way. There's no room or time to manoeuvre and the dog comes straight to your front wheel. Despite that you tilt the bike and yourself to avoid the collision. It does happen. The bike falls from the impact on its side and goes on scratching the front visor, the clutch, the footpegs and the exhaust. The front of your helmet cracks when it meets the road. So what the gravel is tearing away is half your face. Your knees havent got any flesh left. Nor do your knuckles. The bike and you on it,eventually stop. You get up and suddenly life seems to be in slow motion. People are talking but you cant hear anything. Half of your face is dripping with blood and it feels like you will loose your balance any minute. What do you do?
What this rider in question, that's me,did was to run to the dog to see if it's alive. There was none to be found. It had probably run away. Picking up the bike I went on.................Life has changed after that.
In retrospect,do I sympathize with that dog? Speaking the truth,I dont. But I would have saved it anyway.
With half a face, knees and knuckles left I realized that life must go on. Everyone wants a chance to live.

Nightwing agreed your point is a valid one... and even you have been riding since quite long time and you know how unpredictable these animals are whether dog, cow, buffalo or any other species...
In your case it was something which you could not help...but out here I am emphasizing on the fact that when people do it purposefully which even you would have noticed. And about us humans showing sympathy towards humans....its a far thing buddy... we dont show our sympathy to a person who is injured in road accident then what would we do showing sympathy to animals.....
And we have become like this as we all have taken our lives for granted and hence we take all other living being's life as granted too bro... but then yeah I would request all our friends and riders to please prevent animal accidents if one can.... if one cant then nothing can be done....

        cheers

Dog just missed by a a whisker...I thought that I ran over it.

What would happen If I have applied the brakes a second later, Dog would have certianly got killed, and Me and my wife would have fallen off. Thinking practically, I would obviously try to protect my wife and myself with little compromise on killing some animal, Ofcourse there would be lots of guilt that I could have avoided.

Still, Its not under our control to avoid all such things. And India where roads are narrow, people are more along with social animals around, these things are common. It basically boils down to the priorities that we do at such situation. I may be selfish, But I would definetly dont want to see myself or my loved ones injured.
You are spot on with your illustration. In such situation what is one expected to do? It is obvious.

Altough people are careless and many do not give a damn to the innocent and sphechless beings on the road, many of them do care but certain situations are just unavoidable.

Certain situations are unaviodable but many are avoidable and just because of our carelessness those innocent creatures have to bear the brunt, many of whom do not even see tha face of any Vet and are doomed to live the rest of their lives that way. It all comes down to one point - Be Careful...

We need more people like MR. Shivanshu who are ardent Animal lovers and goes that extra mile to help them. After all No matter how much we protest here or whereve... there is little hope that situation will improve...

A fully functional brain is required for sane thinking. There are nuts roaming around in streets and their numbers exceeds those who think the other way round, and as i said its very difficult to make them understand. No matter how much extensive counselling is imparted, the success percentage always remains dissapointing..

Riazmomin - See this is what I meant that you have a responsibility and at times you have to prioritise your responsibilities and ofcourse be it you or me if I would have had my wife behind me and things like that would have happened I would have done and thought the same thing.

But but but havent you all seen riders and drivers who purposefully move towards the animal just to scare the shit out of them...have you seen the drivers on highway who actually boast up of how many dogs they have killed.... and people like this i feel like beating the shit out of them (given me a chance) we have heads and we have our mind so we can think and act. if animals would have had that they wont have been called animals..

I am not saying that you put your life in risk to save other living being ( any living being ) but if one can avoid it then we should. And I know many of us does it too.

You know what this thread has had enough discussions like this...why not we try to actually provide advice, tips, suggestions as per how to avoid these type of incidences.

                      Saved a puppy

Whew! I was going with my gf on Sunday in Hi-Tec city&was at a good speed when suddenly 2 puppies jumped in front of my front wheel!
I thought one of them was gone if I moved left or right while braking. So, I just kept the handle straight&jammed the brakes. The brown puppy on the left side jumped away to safety&the one on the right (which now was right in front of me) got panic-struck&stayed put. Though the rear wheel locked up, I stopped a couple of inches away from him&still he was standing there looking at us with a quizzical look on his cute little face! Then, he finally moved away.
My gf told me: Good you saved a puppy today! He was so cute na!
                      I said yes of course,
The thought on my mind was: Would I have liked to see the smile on that puppy's face or its small little body blown to smithereens by my bike? How would I feel when cleaning blood off my tyres?
So guys, think about it. With power comes responsibility.

Well, Animals certainly do have lives, but try thinking on this part, am on a highway, crusing at around 80-100 Kmph and a Dog comes in front (now dont say who let the dog loose on a highway , Its India dude), Did that dog thought of me when coming on highway?? if he didnt, why would I (just why the heck i would expect anything to come on a 23 km long expressway?)
I cant Brake hard, considering the fact that at the time im in middle lane, and if i do, the vehicles before me are gonna crush me?? at those times, either u will just kill that dog, or u brake hard and get crushed by vehicles behind you or try to swing here and there and crash into barb wire fences.. Giving u Sexy surgeries that you can after show off to ur frnds

The same goes on roads, The speed limit in india is 50 kmph (am assuming tht we ride at 50 kmph, though we have karizmas, pulsars, RTRs dusting out vehicles on road, i hardly believe that even one wouldnt ride as fast but not as low as atleast 50 ). What do you expect at tht speed, i dont think that its slow enough that a dog pops in, and u do a Rollin Stoppie and public calls you "Hero of the day" , thts Impractical. More to tht, i hate dogs, reason being these stray dogs just chase my bike like anything, its really hard to manage to get through them without crushing them.

The thing that should come in play here are municipal departments, though they hardly care for that, i myself complained guys over there, but they are one heck of lazy Mules, nothing more... What we face here in southern part of delhi?? Monkeys, Dogs, Cats, Cows, Bulls, Idiot drunkards, Aunties (who just cross without seeing if whos coming), Cycle guys (king of roads), Slum guys leaving their kids like that on road, even proper families leave their kids to play in streets, even at speed of 20, u just cant stop a kid from getting hurt who intentionally falls in front of ur bike.. MAN!! IF U CARE FOR THT MUCH ON ROAD, WHEN ARE U GONNA RIDE THEN.. COZ CONSIDERING ALL THIS, U CAN NEVER CROSS 10KMPH MARK ..

Im not saying tht u JUST KILL these IDIOTS (though i personally prefer hanging them over their thumbs), but sometimes u have to choose between lives, and if the LIFE falling in front of u is an idiot one, and ur sensible enough, i would say choose ur life... why let that idiot ruin urs and the others besides you??
                          SLOWPOKE!!

Yes.. there are a few humans (i don't know if they can be called that) who dont really give a DAMN ... even if they can avoid killing a poor animal, they just run over it.. (I HAVE SEEN IT).. I have two dogs of my own.. cannot explain the feeling when I see something like that happen.. thse ppl are in cages mosta the time, and all they feel bad about is probably some hairs n blood stuck to their bumper.. What can I do.. I feel like going at 70-80kmph and ramming that bugger from the side, but I'll die for sure.. coz I'm on my 100cc..
All that we can do, to avoid killing innocent animals even by mistake is to be careful, when we see an animal crossing the road, its better to slow down till we are past it.. can't tell what they're thinking na..

Killing animals bad: seeing a dead animals worse. I have seen people on the road who were dissected by truck (literally). Bikers who talk here can say "I can stop before I hit the dog /cow/old people." But you forget the classic Indian commuter who uses a two wheeler to commute his way to office, to his kid's school or his wife's beauty parlor does not know shit about handling or breaking. Most Indian commuters think that using the front brake will kill them. You sincerely think that they can stop a vehicle before it hits something? Most such two wheelers are in no condition to stop suddenly either.

I was a novice once. A cow, a duck, 3 dogs and 2 crows have fallen victim to my unfortunate accidents. I feel bad about it. I cant create a life so I shouldn't take one either. The bigger question is when people don't care about other people in this country, what do you think will happen to poor animals.
