Spray Paint for Silencer
Just noticed a big patch of rust and smaller bits on the Unicorn silencer. Since its raining heavily in chennai the past few days, sprayed some WD-40 and covered the bike with a proper silver cover. Is it advisable to remove the rust a bit deeper with wd-40, rub emery sheet (fine quality) and use black spray paint can?
Wasn't sure how the paint would react to the heat on the silencer and if would be effective during heavy rains. Spray can (Kobe acryllic, thailand product) is around Rs.200.
The silencer has a nice existing matte sort of black finish, so is there a spray can with matte finish as well? wouldnt want to ruin the look with gloss paint.

Re: How to protect bike in rains??
What I do is no matter what the season, I cover my bike with a cover. This cover is made of the same material umbrellas are used. Helps protect my bike from scorching sunlight and torrential rain. And also keep a microfiber cloth to wipe out any water which may have slipped through.A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Re: How to protect bike in rains??
sorry for late reply. it is available in 4 ltr can. the dealer quoted around Rs.14000/-.Originally posted by srikany View Posthow much does it cost and is it not available in smaller qty.please share the details
At getgeared.coo.uk - http://www.getgeared.co.uk/ACF-50_36...ctor_Spray_Can
two quantities of these with shipping 10 GBP costs you 33.33 GBP - Rs.3300/-. which means for 738 G (369 + 369) the price is Rs.3300/-.
I think Rs.14000 for 4 ltr is reasonable, correct me if am wrong. We can share, atleast 4 persons, each getting a 1 ltr.Last edited by santhoshs; 06-17-2015, 09:40 PM.

Re: How to protect bike in rains??
Well the best thing is to polish the bike before the rainy season, and keep the bike clean. If you are taking out the bike throughout the week, then make it a point that you give her a good water wash at the end of the week (weekend) and when dry try to polish it again. Also about electricals like battery points and all, the points which are open or exposed like horn wires and all. Just apply the good old petroleum jelly Vaseline on it so that it is completely covered in that and the water does'nt get into. Thats how I protect my bikes.

How to protect my new bike from rain? Need help
Guys, rains have started where I live in. I own a Gixxer SF SP that is barely a month old. Since I have no prior experience with owning a bike, I want to know how to protect my Gixxer from the rains. I have to park the bike in the open at work since there is no shade anywhere nearby. So it is exposed to rain for at least an hour daily (the rains started two days ago). Should I get some kind of anti-rust or Teflon coating? Is there something else I should do?

For the paint, Please use a goodquality Car wax, you can apply the wax for the rims and chrome bits as well. For the chain, keep it lubricated with 90 grade gear oil and dont run it dry out, as a dry chain catches rust easily. For all the chassis breather holes and other bits use WD40 generously. I have done this for my Bullet in the not so forgiving saline environment in Mumbai and was able to keep the rust at bay.Originally posted by rennyg View PostGuys, rains have started where I live in. The teflon coatings in India are a scam, stay away from them.
