  • Advice for long trip

    Hi

Me and a couple of friends were planning a 2+ week long trip from Pune to Kanyakumari, and back.

This would be our first such long trip. Could someone please guide me about what things we need to plan for?

We have planned to do around 400 kms a day, with rest stops and night halts planned. Anything else that we need to consider?

Also, should we carry some spare parts or something?

We will not be having a backup vehicle.

    Thanks for your advice

Yes, you should carry some spares such as accelerator and clutch cables, tubes, puncture repair kit, foot pump, spare bulbs(headlight and tail light).

        @samudranb :

As much as you carry --- as much you can travel Happily.......
So try to take more things........u can.....
It depends on how many of u travel and what bikes u use to travel....

Some one of ur travelling partner should know little bit of Mechanism....if some things goes wrong on any of ur machines.........

All bikes should have Secondary Headlights and Rear Lights fixed.....
Make sure u have Reflective tapes in Front - side and back of ur Bike....
Its better to have stock tyres - coz stock tyres(mostly Tubeless) will have maximum strength to prevent Punctures.....
Have a better and Loud Horn.....for highways......
This is rainy Time so --- extra caution is needed......Fog lights will also be a good deal......
Check for batteris and also carry the Liquid to top up your batteries if needed.....
Footpump for to check lower air levels and prevent immediate downing of tyres(only for Tubeless)....Puncher Repair Kit....
Extra Spark Plugs for each bikes.....
        Cables.......Clutch, Acclerator,

Service ur bike before the start of the travel.....
Have 1ltr of Engine oil.....in handy.....it might require ----if u need topup....
Have ur Toolkit----- if the Companies toolkit is not comfortable --- get an aftermarker - one - which suits you.......

please mention how many & what bikes are with you.. just for info..

          1. get a saddle-bag if you dont have.
          2. dont try to have any bags on your back.. be free while riding.
          3. Carry footpump & tubes if possible.
          4. Plan a perfect itinerary before starting your ride.. Get it cross-checked & confirmed with other people to make sure your plan is feasible. If possible put it up here on xBHP & people around the country would be able to give you exact information about the places they reside & you gonna pass from.
          5. Prefer mineral water on the journey
          6. Carry engine oil is a must for atleast top-ups
          7. Avoid riding at nights. Depending on the roads you will be able to do certain kms per day. Like you said.. 400kms per day, this be little difficult in case you are riding in mountains. Hence getting your plan verified by people aware of the routes should be a big important thing to do.
          8. Carry first-aid kit & basic medicines.
          9. Ride with protective gears.. a Jacket, Gloves & Knee pads are really important & beneficial.
          10. Enjoy your ride..!!

I have just tried to recollect this things from my recent Mumbai-Leh-Mumbai journey done a month back & riding for 20 days & covering 6500kms.
          Hope it helps..!

            Thanks a lot guys!

We are planning to do this in sept 1st week or Nov last week. We need to start planning now... because we need to organize our leaves and stuff.

My bike is not very ideal for touring... I have an RTR. But lets see what I can do.

I have a basic plan already mapped out on an excel (u can always tell who is a techie ) Wil upload it to xBhp once we finalize a few more details.

Has anybody done this trip before?

I am pretty bad at "mechanics" stuff... I need to learn at least the basics... can u give me a list of stuff i should learn? (The max i have ever done is taken off my wheel )

            Thanks again to all!

Doing a Solo ride would be boring for me. It is best to have friends company. You never know what you might get into. It is best to be safe with couple of guys to help out each other. My sugesstion is ride with couple riders. Has you are travelling a long distance atleast try riding with 3 to 4 guys. If it was a short distance like 100 to 150 ok to drive solo.
