RIDING GEAR~

A pair of riding boots or shoes;
Leather gloves;
Goggles or spectacles to safeguard eyes;
An ISI-certified helmet (stick lighting strips @ front & rear);
NOTE: a light-coloured shirt makes you more visible to other road users, especially @ night.;
CAUTION: loose clothing may get caught on moving parts of your motorcycle.

SITTING POSTURE~
Correct sitting posture is a prerequisite for stable & Safe riding:
Sit straight with your shoulders completely relaxed;
Keep your elbows close to your body;
Keep your toes pointing straightly ahead;
Press the petrol tank slightly with your knees;
Hold the handle grip close to its inner end;
Look extensively, including @ the rear view mirror, without turning your head.

BRAKING~
Use front & rear brakes together for maximum braking effciency;
WARNING: applying any one of the brakes suddenly may cause the vehicle to skid;
The hydraulic disc brake fitted on your bike requires very little effort.
High or sudden effort application may lock the wheel. Please exercise utmost caution while applying disc brakes.
Use brakes cautiously while riding on wet roads.

PAPERS~
During your ride you may cross into another state or may be stopped by Traffic Police, @ which time you may need to produce any of the following documents:
Certificate of Registration;
Insurance Certificate;
Lifetime Tax Certificate;
Emission Certificate;
Driving License.

ROUTE PLANNING~
STEP 1: Decide on how many days you can spare,& then put aside a day (or half a day) for eventualities that might crop up.

STEP 2: Average a maximum of 450 kms & a minimum of 200 kms per riding day. See what places lie within your reach given the number of days you have, & the distance you are comfortable covering.

Step 3: Make a route plan with a good, reliable map. If possible, choosen an alternate route to take in case of any eventualities.

STEP 4: Plan your night halts. Riding after dark should be avoided whenever possible, & riding through the nights is not recommended @ all. Check to see if there is accommodation available en route. If you plan to rough it out, then make sure you are carrying basic camping equipment. Avoid sleeping outdoors if you are riding alone.

STEP 5: Work out a rough budget based on your food (& drink! but dont drink & drive) habits, your bike's fuel average, total number of kilometers you plan to cover, & the number of nights you will be staying out. It is better to carry twothirds of the money in the form of a debit card, & a third of it in cash.

STEP 6: Get your bike serviced & checked by a trusted mechanic @least 2 days before the trip. Ride the bike in the city before you set out so that if there are any problems, you'll be able to get your mechanic to correct them well before you leave.

STEP 7: Make sure that your mobile phone bills are paid, roaming is activated & you are carrying the addresses & phone numbers of people who need to be contacted in case something goes wrong. Inform relevent people about when you are leaving, where you plan to go, where you plan to stop for the night, & when you plan to return(if you are in mood to return).

NOTE~
Now you can leave & now you go chalo bhaago jao ghuumne.........

Have A safe journey........

Lifetime Tax Certificate

What is a lifetime tax certificate. I don't have it and have no idea about it. Will the authorities issue a Registration Certificate (RC) without payment of tax? If no then the RC itself is a proof that tax is paid...

PERSEVERE... failure is not an option!

I guess all 90 Model and above bikes come with Life Tax paid with the Registration Certificate.
Only bikes below 90 model need yearly Tax to be paid.

There is no chance that authorities issue a Registration Certificate (RC) without payment of tax and there is a separate paper for Life TAX apart from RC.

I heard that there are some insurance companies who are providing Life time insurance for Bikes.

Do any one know about it.

Your RC is proof itself that Lifetime Tax has been paid. But also remember that for NCR (do not know about other places), Lifetime Tax = 15 years. After that period, you have to take your vehicle again for a fitness test and get a fresh registration done and you will get a fresh Tax Certificate marked on the RC.

Planning to do an inter-state run on my Ninja in a few weeks or so.

Please suggest as to where in bangalore city I can buy bungee cords and a reliable air pump. I prefer a mechanical one (dont want an electrical one as removing the side panel and connecting the unit to the battery is cumbersome). I have an air pressure guage so i'm not very particular about the pump having a built in guage. Unit needs to be small enough to be carried in a backpack or so while touring.

I'm toying with the idea of buying an air pump designed for bicycles that also fit into motorcycle tire valves but need some more ideas before i make the purchase.

I also will be picking up a puncture repair kit in a day or two. Reputed tire shops stock them. Any suggestions on which brand I should buy or recommended places I should buy from? I need good quality ones which are highly reliable.

Please suggest and thanks in advance.

Thanks for the information.

one query @ ALL : if someone is doing an interstate ride... and he is in some X state albeit his bike is registered from Y state.
so is he liable to put up NOC document as well ??

because as far as i know one cant ride permanently in a state where his bike is not registered ??
and if he is caught up by cops he need to shown some Noc documents ?

throw some light on this anyone.

Petrol receipt from home state within last 6 month is a proof good enough to prove you are touring and not staying in the guest state.

Just before where Mueseum road hits St Marks road, there is an adventure goods shop where you will find bungee cords.

As for the foot pump, you can borrow it from me!

You can stay in that Y state as long as you can furnish proof that you + bike weren't in state Y 30 days back. So, you should keep fuel bills from fillups en route handy. But there is no problems faced in this regard in Ahmedabad/Baroda though as my buddy there has been using his Nasik (MH-15) registered CBZ without any problems for the last 2 years.

P.S.: If you wish to stay longer, you can get a friend to speed-post fresh receipts with your bike no. on them every 25 days.

P.P.S.: NOC is only valid for 11 months and has to be renewed by taking the vehicle to the registering RTO.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
