  • Do Names Matter ??

Been thinking about this from childhood.

Does the Name of the brand/model influence buyers ?? Not the 'Brand Name', but the actual 'Name' of the brand (eg. Bajaj is quite a big brand name in India, but is also a family name which some people might not like)

I have always thought what would be the best name for a bike model. An inanimate object ?? an animal ?? a few letters and digits ?? or a superlative ??

I grew up when it was mostly letters and numbers ( RX100, CL-II, RX135, CD 100 etc. ) Bullet was already there. So was Yezdi Roadking/Oilking ( the first superlative name for an Indian bike ??).

And it kept on evolving, and its mostly superlatives now. What kind of a bike could be called Ambition, passion, glamor etc ?? Just my opinion, but I would personally never pay for a bike called Glamor.

And what abt the so called masculine names ?? Stunner, hunk etc ? superlatives all the way.

I am expecting a day when Hero Honda/Bajaj churns out a bike called Brilliant or Strong or Sturdy...

Personally I feel the best ever name for an Indian model was RD350 ( Race Derived is what I believe in, i ve heard multiple abbreviations).
And the best ever brand name was 'Yezdi'. I like the name so much that when I adopt a dog, I ll name him/her Yezdi. Scared to do that on my kids, cos dont know if they ll hate me for that.

Bikers, what are your opinions ?? Do names matter or not ?

"What's in a name? that which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet", with due credit to the great man from the 16th century, I choose to differ. The Rose would still smell as sweet as Romeo might say it. But a name does matter. What if the Rose was not called a Rose but a Hippopotamus instead! Would you still even want to go and smell it as much? I have my reservations.

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

The Ninja and Katana are two legendary names that come to my mind at this point. And even the Indian TVS Suzukis had good names Shogun and Shaolin.

I kinda like those random alpha numeric names these biggies have got for example ZX-10R, YZF-R6 or even MT-01 than bloody pulsar or heck even discover.. I am a Bajaj fan but I'd love it if a pulsar 180 was indeed a P180 officially

Ashok that’s a real nice topic that you have come up with, the names given to a bike any bike for that matter helps it personifying the sort of character it possibly can exhibit, just like in novels you have the author pouring words after words to develop a character, the same trait is being showcased by the name of the bike.
The ninja’s , the raptors , the blackbird’s they all help you in portraying the sort of image the bike possibly would be. I mean how offensive, distasteful would it be for a 1000cc bike to be called lily or serene, that would simply kill the purpose, the whole definition of what the bike is meant for.

I hope HH's product management team is looking at this rofl we have two new names suggestions for you. If not "lily", "serene" should definetly capture their imagination.

Names don't really influence my purchase but Hero Honda is the worst brand name along with their model names(Karizma!!??,)
Bajaj sounds decent...pulsar is a good name
TVS well not bad or great!Apache is a great name..

Hahaha guys could not help thinking from this rather hypothetical situation which pertains to this post
Drivetimes:- buzuki motors launched their hyper sports bike buzuki bell’a today in india. The bike is fitted with a 1200cc motors which pumps a mind boggling 178 bhp. In an exclusive interview the MD of buzuki MR Misuchi Muscha said (with the twinkle in his eyes) that the bell’a is agile and swift and is the perfect epitome of beauty and power.
and if that’s not too bad picture this a macho dude comes in a pub ,chest bulging out like someone pumped helium up in his ass, strapped in racing gear orders a beer ,the bartender looks up at his with great respect and jealousy and asks him
“Which machine do you ride bro?”
The guy sips on the beer gives him a timid yet embarrassed look and says
                      “I ride a buzuki bell’a”
Most likely the bartender would commit a suicide hearing this.
So ya the name matters big time frens what do you all reckon?

For me names don't matter. I won't buy a moped just becoz it is called Ninja. Or I won't ignore a litre bike just becoz is it called Caliber..or even if some lilly. At least that Lilly can rip the tits off that Ninja . I'll buy a machine for the reason it makes me feel proud of owning that machine. Now it doesn't matter what name is it, it is the machine that matters.
