i completely agree to all the above said statements and am myself pondering about the facts about biking but friends please take a few minutes and think over that DO WE ACTUALLY FOLLOW WHAT WE WRITE HERE ??

Am not blaming or pointing out anyone and this includes ME too as a biker.. but the truth is that we always think about these incidents and discuss only when someone close to us is involved. There are thousands losing their lives every second in road mishaps all around the world. When we are on our rides we simply feel as if we are totally out of this world creatures and do not give a damn about people around us or traffic rules for that matter.

We should seriously bring about a change in our routine biking ways and get more people alert about safe biking.. may be conduct road shows and other awareness programs in our cities with fellow XBHP members & the traffic department, work as volunteers rather than just blaming other people or the Indian roads etc etc..

Am sorry if i have unknowingly hurt anyone's feelings but just thought of putting down in words what i felt.

    RIDE SAFE.

Iam sure that almost all Xbhpians have taken the pledge that -
We always wear a helmet/ Lock the Helmet while riding, will also follow the traffic rules and respect other people on the road.

to add to this Comment I would say -

      1) I think of my family, dependents and friends before I start my Ride
      2) I will not Drink when I drive/ Drive when I Drink
      3) More cautious during Rains/ dark / Mud surfaces / single Lanes
      4) No unnecessary overtaking, no rash / hurry rides, no Zig Zags
5 ) Will not get influenced to street racing when somebody zooms next to me
      6) Plan every ride, start early to avoid riding fast to reach destination
      7) More and more cautious when accompanied by a pillion rider
      8) If I am better in doing 0-100 in 10Sec , I will be best in doing 100-0 in 6Sec
      9) Stop aside to answer Mobile Phones, no listening to music on rides
      10) Beware of Other stupids on the Roads (Ex - Autorickshaws, tractors, Lorries, cab drivers and sometimes even buses
      11) Ensure good maintenance on bikes, frequently check Brakes & Tyre pressure

LIFE IS PRECIOUS - LETS NOT BLAME GOD

Yep, I am sure. Cos it was driven by Tamil Film star Vikram. Dono if it is his own.
Guess I should not say 'I raced with a Porche'. Its rather, I tried to race with a Porche. I was throttling on and on, but the car kept moving farther and farther to disappear. My odo read ~112(should be just over 100 really). That was the fastest my bike would go. Never ever tried again.
And yes, being saner is being safer, so I am enjoying reaching the destinations now, rather than reaching them fast.

I would give a +1000 for that sentence.
After buying my ZMA last week I have started Sane riding. Crusing at a speed of 70kmph makes me feel SATISFIED. I just talk to myself when someone speeds past me. I just say "Po thambi Po ( meaning Go Brother... GO) and give out a wild grin.

Selling the 180 and buying the 223 taught me to ride at much slower speeds even though I know what my 223 has under the tank.

Well said Bro,... very well said.

Well, I am not patient enough to write so much as my fellow bikers above( REAd posts above)..
I would just like to say,
Chriss's incident/accident has shaken every single nerve outta me.
I am, to be frank, SCARED.
I just realized that I have been quite pre-occupied while riding for the past few months.
            A bit over confident.
I think its time for some serious SELF-REALIZATION.. A time to PONDER...

I will only consider reaching my destination safe rather than reaching my destination faster.

Thanks a lot for this thread, which we should keep revisiting once in a while.

I used to ride P150 for few years and had few smalls mishaps, most of them without my fault. But I loved riding bikes. After sometime I moved on and baught a car and getting used to it. As time passed, I was feeling safe in the car and bike was sparingly used which I sold.

I started missing the pleasure of bike rides and I thought of buying a good bike for short and week end rides. And then the Ninja250R launch caught my eye and I almost decided to book one as soon as it is launched. My family approved it (even my 5 yrs old daughter liked the Ninja pics). I was eagerly waiting for the launch and right after the launch Kriss met with the accident. This was the eye opener for me, which made me think hard, if I really have to buy a bike!

I am still in shock, and dont know what I will decide. Right now, feeling bad for Kriss and his family. I need some time get out of it. But right now, buying Ninja is out of my mind for atleast few months.

Please, please, please, RIDE SAFE. I dont want to read another sad story on this forum. We all are good souls, who are aware of responsibilities towards our family and society. I just admire all the enthu and excitement on this forum.

Know what, these were the same thoughts I had when I had my accident. To be precise, when I was struggling to limp up a staircase with a completely bruised and patched up knee. And when I was holding on to the bed post when a cruel nurse was mercilessly cleaning my wound with cotton and dettol.
I dint deserve to cry. I deserved to suffer. Probably more, and been lucky ever since.

Actually, there is no need to be scared. There is more to biking than going fast. Actually, there is very little in biking fast. Discover better pleasures.
                  This is what I do.

Get up early at 6 am on a Sunday, and set out on an unplanned trip to the outskirts of the city. (Of course with safety gears).
Keep to 60kph max, how ever abandoned the road looks. Look at how your city looks on a lazy morning. Enjoy the soft light.
Stop at a roadside chai shop about 30km from your house, and feast yourself.
Let me tell you, there is nothing like going there slow, parking your bike and enjoying a tea atop your bike. It would clear all the left over adrenaline hoarding in you all over the week when you were riding slow.
Whatever be your age, it would be fun if you can get along a couple of friends for this. Or your wife/girlfriend.

Try to get a bike that will let you enjoy other things than the tech spec. RE Bullet is what I use. When I enjoy the thump at 30kph, there is probably no reason which would press me to get to 80-90. My personal opinion and choice, I am sincerely NOT endorsing the brand.

After all, we all have promises to keep, and miles to go before we sleep. So is there a point in trying to go faster and stop midway?

I had not yet signed up to xBhp and just browsing thru the P220 Dtsi thread when suddenly this message appeared that the forum is closed due to the sad demise of Kriss. Felt very sorry for him though I did not know him personally.

In a few previous posts, one xBHPian has made the right point. We only take note of such stuff when an incident/accident happens to someone whom we know. Else we always feel that we are in total control and nothing can happen to us.

I was also like this when I was using the RTR160. Well I dont know if it was me or the nature of the bike, but every time i used to get on the bike, the adrenaline rush and the need for speed would rouse within me.

But now after switching to P220 DTSi, I have become more of a tourer wherein I maintain sedate speeds of 70-80 Kmph on highways and am always alert for road situations.

We need to maintain caution at all times and not just when we hear some sad news about someone whom we know

                        Ride slow and steady.

                        The benefits of riding slow:

                        1. You are much safer.
                        2. You get more time to react in a panic situation.
                        3. You get more mileage from your bike.
                        4. The brake pads of your bike will last much longer.
                        5. Your trip will be less stressful.
                        6. You can spend more time on your bike.
                        7. You can enjoy the roads.
                        8. Your bike will be in a good condition.
                        9. You will reach your destination safely.
                        10. You would not be a threat to other people on the road.
